video editing programs

Pinnacle Studio 8 sucks! User-friendly, but when you clip together videos that are longer than 6 minutes the porgram crashes. And it really can't do much more than put music and title slides to video clips.

I've also tried Ulead Video Studio 6. It sucks too. It came with my video card. I don't like it at all. Not very user friendly...and has about the same abilities as Pinnacle.

One's I've heard are good.... Adobe Premier, Vegas 4.0, and Final Cut (mac.) I'm going to be getting Premier soon....student discounts are a wonderful thing!!

heres my step by step taturial on how to GET SHIT FOR FREE.

1)d/l kazaa if u dont already have it

2) d/l the selected program (if u want vegas video 4.0, which is what i have then go to sonicfoundry.com and d/l the demo)then refer to step 3

3) on kazaa d/l the crack or seriel number

4)enjoy bitch, i got 600+ worth of softwhere for free

i dont care if a mac has final cut pro its still a waste of money. premiere isnt as good but it definately gets the job done well if u know how to use it. and if u want final cut pro u will be spendin $999, opposed to the free premiere by way of ripping off adobe. in my eyes, as long as you dont make money off of an illegal program, its ok.

Movie Maker 2 isn't actually that bad, you can use like ANY format of video including the stuff you get from a digital Still camera which is very compressed. It can get annoying though and you don't have much video editing techniques when it comes to adjust hue, saturation, contrast and what-not.

jibberkid69: you're not really going to be able to find much under $200 bucks that's any good. All they'll be able to do is put a few clips together, and add some music and title slides....they don't really have any capability to do anything super cool.

Now if you're someone who uses Kazaa (and the like) you could download the good programs for free....assuming you have no moral quams with using pirated programs....but that's a whole nother subject.

Imovie blows... good if you don't know what your doing...

Final Cut and Adobe Premier are the best... careful if you hack Final Cut they have a tracer on it if you use it unplug your internet and don't let it update or anything...

The new premier comes with a sick titling package. It looks supersweet.

Avid Express DV is super clean. If you work with it alot you will get to know some really sick features that they incorporate from their high end shit like composer and symphony (hollywood programs). For instance the spline tool for changing speeds is dope. that way you don't have to butt cut from one speed to the next. It's titling tool is not the strongest, but pirate a version of afteraffects and do your titling in something clean. Bottom line... the good programs (adobe, avid, discreet edit) will take some time to figure out, but they are so worth it.

 
I forgot to mention. If you edit on avid, you have the option, if you someday want to, to upgrade the footage to a higher compression rate. so if you shot on a higher resolution (like if you get the chance to shoot film and higher res digi) you can redigitize the entire batch in Avid Composer or symphony (pretty dope if you get the chance)

Avid is the way to go.
