Video editing program

i recently bought a camcorder and i was wondering what y'alls opinions were on a good video editing program to get. The cameras a Canon zr200. I have pretty much no experience in this field so any help would be appreciated.

for pc i guess you should get either vegas (easier to learn on) or premier (a little more difficult but a little more professional aswell)... for mac either final cut pro or express... i have a mac and final cut express is really nice and has the same layout as pro so you can upgrade later

windows movie maker is the shit

adobe premiere 6.5.. not premiere pro.. unless you have a shitload of memory. its easy to use and somewhat basic.. it has single track and dual track modes.. with filters, transitions etc..

hows premier pro compared to 6.5? pro is somewhat confusing but i can get around and edit but i don't know any special fearures
