So im trying to make a little season edit of some sort...

in the editor (sony vegas pro 12) i have a few different types of videos, i got vids from a dslr, gopro, iphone 5s, and vhs. My only problem is that the iphone videos are very shitty, there pretty choppy or laggy or something. is there any way i can fix this? im not very good at video editing. Also, what do i use for rendering settings? since i have videos from a vhs, i cant do anthing over 480p right? +k

you can output to 1080 even with vhs but of course you would have to stretch the video to fit and therefore would make the bad quality clips look even worse so probably would be safer to stick with 480,

if you're iPhone videos are choppy, you can never fix it, but you may be able to reduce the choppiness if you change the frame blending options. I haven't used sony vegas so don't know how to do it but google will tell you.

Frame blending in Vegas produces a terrible image in my opinion. Although I guess it really depends on the frame rate of the cameras you were shooting with (which is probably causing your lag)

As a rule of thumb you can decrease the framerate, but shouldn'the increase it. For example: the go pro perhaps shot at 720p 60 fps, the dslr perhaps at 1080p 30 fps, and perhaps the vhs at 480p 24 fps (numbers are made up). In this scenario you should probably keep the project itself in 480p at 24 fps. The higher framerates will adjust to the 24 fps without being choppy, as it will just cut a few frames, the lower ones need to add frames to match the higher ones, which results in choppiness. You may be able to stretch the 480p to 720p, but it won't look good, you can always make higher resolutions smaller

Also don't forget to right click on every clip>properties>disable resample Vegas is notorious for bad quality without this step
