i need a program that will convert video files into files that will play on dvd player

i mostly need it for converting avi's to something my dvd player will play

any suggestions for a program
 
i went through this a few months ago for a school project and i had no luck. if you find something please pm and tell me what it is.. cuz i was pisssed.. i had to go and buy a 25 dollar dvd when i had it on my freaking computer.
 
divix dvd does what you need, BUT it costs moneyu, with the trial it says divix dvd in yellow on the top and bottom of the wid screen.
 
Its called winavi video converter. You can get a copy off of torrentspy. Just make sure you get 6.7 not 7.0. winavi will convert .avi to DVD files and then you can use a program like nero to actually burn the dvd files.
