it depends what level you are going to be using it and how much you are willing to spend. Have you ever shot skiing before and how familiar are you iwth settings like exposure, shutter speed, saturation, etc......... I started on a Canon ZR-20 and outgrew it quickly. I then bought a Sony VX-2000 which was amazing, but its still being repaired. I edit on Adobe Premiere 6
I have clips of skiing, but the quality would not be off the dv camera the quality would be of how I uploaded it. If I upload it with high quality it is like 36 megs for like a 4 second clip.

Sean, have skodeo send you a still frame then (or several) in different lighting situations. that would only be a few hundred kilobytes and you'd get a good idea of what his cam is capable of.
sean check out the pic in my profile (car jump one) that was taken in pretty low light with my dv. also check out this http://www.skodeo7.8m.com/photo.html it is just a site that I store photos on. All of the photos on there are stills from my dv EXCEPT this one:
I have had to condense some of them, but the pic that is realllllllllly large I did not condense or anything. Hope that helps.

My friend just got a GL1, that things is real sweet. The quality of the footage is amazing. His parents were stingy his whole life to him till now, but they got him a sweet Dell computer to edit with ( with dvd-rw drive.....exccellent) the adobe package and a GL1. So, he's happy. I wish i had all that shit.
