Video camera virgin

Alright so i basically don't know anything at all about video cameras, but i recently fallen in love with editing. I have been using my friends jvc hd camcorder and imovie on his mac. I just started about 3 months ago..

I know it's not much, but I have gotten really into it and i would like to think about buying one. So i need your help to get started.

As of now I am thinking of a price range from 500-1000. I will be editing the footage on the macbook i got for school. And most of the time I will be filming skiing, so i probably don't want it to be huge.

With this being said can anyone point me in the right direction of what kinds and brands would suit me the best? I know I still have alot to research before I buy one. I just need your help to start.

^That looks sick but is there a newer model. After a quick check it looks like it is hard to find them new. But maybe I am not looking hard enough..

get a tripod or somethin and get a better camera but other than that it looks good

itll get a lot better the more you film and edit
 
My first camera was a GL2. I probably should've started with something smaller, but Im glad I didn't.
 
the trv900 is no longer in production. there is a trv950 but thats no longer in production either. for your price range check those two cameras out and maybe the panasonic gs series.
