^hahaha. well some of the old hi-8 cameras(top of the line 5 or 10 years ago) are better quality then some of the lower(cheeper) mini dv cameras.

Yes, Optura Xi's are good camera's, but if you are considering that, look into the Panasonic PVGS400, which is a better cam at around the same price. Theres quite a gap between a GL2 and a Xi though.

mini dv is the style of tape you use and 3ccd is how the lens process what it sees. basically you have a chip that works for all the three main colors, acorrding to a camera ma person.
