Martin and the liberals won tonight in the first minority government since joe clark in 1979.

the ndp won 19, and the liberals 135, making a left wing of 154 seats and a right wing of 153. the one other vote.

the other seat is right now is NA, but there is oen thing we can bet, there will be 4 years of fun times in canada.

leagalized pot, better environmental practices, more funding for all (and all because of the NDP influence of swaying the house vote).

I wouldn't exactly call it a 'victory' numbnuts, its a minority. Its probably the best possible outcome, mainly because nothing will get done. Harper is a crackpot, Martin is a crook, Layton is a hippie, its just a bad bunch. better to keep their hands tied with a minority until a reasonable alternative becomes available.

'Minority government' sounds so negative. Can we try using 'coalition government' instead? It brings up happy thoughts of co-operation between parties, and great ideas that get put into place.

i havnt had a chance to see the news yet, but how was the turn out at the polls? i worked ata voting station and we had more than 70% turnout there, was it the same across canada?

I love the cons complaining about the system... Here, have a clue. If the election had been done differently, the NDP would have more seats than the bloc quebecois. BigJ, the 'Liberal party' isn't really all that liberal. The NDP are the real liberal party in Canada... if you check out that political compass, Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin actually sits on the right side of the graph, along with a lot of the conservatives on this site.

221, it is a victory for Canada. Everything gets done with a minority government, well, the important things. the medicare system, our flag, our anthem. THis is close to a true victory for democracy (minus proportional representation) as 4 parties are truly represented.

That political compass is not very accurate as i was -6+ on both making me more pacifist than the dali lama....

The liberals have made our country the amazing place it is to live today, and combined with the NDP in a minority real changes can be made.

as for 'the idiots taking over'... do i hear nofx somewhere in the background? i'm going to have to say that nofx is talking about BUSH and the rupublicans. they are idiots. no good ideas. no sense of their own liberties which are in the constitution they are supposed to adhere to. And the worst part is, no one sees what Bush is doing, or they don't care. hence how idiots are allowing idiots to run Arcmerica.

i am all for this minority (Boards, funny how you now all of a sudden agree with me*) because if the liberals want to stay in parliment, they NEED those NDP votes, which means that a lot of what will be happening will be socially based. i'm stoked.
