Victory For Bush

You know what's funny.

The fact that Bush's administration reported this as being a clever and wise move on their behalf.

OK, it was clever, but why? No one is actually talking about the fact that the government was so afraid of handing over the sovreignty on the planned day, because they have absolotely NO control over the area. They KNEW, that if they were to do a ceremony, they would be blasted to pieces by suicide bombers and rocketattacks.

What the whole story proves, is that the US are leaving a government that is still completely unprotected.

I really hope all that training they're getting is going to help them.

Unfortuently we aren't leaving, while they have control over their government we are, for the time being, still in charge of the security and protection in Iraq. That is why we still have 140,000 troops over there, so we can protect them, keep order, and stop a potential war between the different groups/sects.

It's still sad to hear them talk about the handover as a success. A REAL success would have been to hand it over on the day it was planned, WITHOUT having anyone killed. That would've been more than a success. That would have been a miracle.

Wow, you know what the only diffrence between what you deem a success and what I call a success is 48 hours. What a big diffrence that makes, I mean the whole thing would have been totally comprimised if we handed it over 30 min earlier, I mean a totall disaster.(sarcastometer-7)

I think the emphasis was on the people dying there... and my questions still stand.

No one died as a direct result of the ceremony, there were no attacks on it. If you are refrencing the three marines who died the other day it is not like we are currently the agressors, we are an occupation force and the insurgents are the aggressors, so I guess they didn't get Bush memo on no action. I mean the fact that they are still fighting is not our fault and is not Bush's fault (excluding the fact that we are over there) but the insurgents. So why are you bitching about how Bush handled it when forces not even related and outside of our control interviened.

JD what was your question?

My fact is this: Bush makes a little smarty texas cowboy move and holds the celebration early. 'Look, we have control, we outsmarted them!' they say.

When the real truth is, that they have no control whatsoever. They HAD to do it on a undefined date. They don't even have control enough to secure ONE building with a ceremony.

I think it's pretty shallow to start the fireworks because Bush says we should...

But don't get me wrong. It was good the held the ceremony hidden. 'cause Im sure it would have been a disaster if they hadn't.

Well by handing over power it allows saddam to have a fair iraqi trial. (sarcasm =10) The USA controled government as bigj pointed out, the real power of iraq and control if you can call it that is in the 140 000 USA troops over there. Also all the administrative people that have been instaled into the iraqi government are pro american or atleast sympathetic due to the fact that they owe their job to the usa. This will result in a trial for saddam that will be, for the most part, usa controled, or at least the final desicion will be. While he deserves a trial, eventhough he may be a brutal hardened man, he still deserves a fair one, and unfortunatly i dont think that he is going to end up having one if it takes place in the present iraq, under the present iraqi administration.

One life. One world. Live, or die trying.

i like how three intelligent people are arguing with one fuck-wit here... and my god i love the daily show.

guess what! the new prime minister and president were the Iraqi's 16th and 17th choices out of 17. we didnt hand the power over at all. we just put a couple of puppets in there for us to look good and still be in control

I stopped reading after three posts but here is my two cents:

I dont look at it that fox news was the only good one covering it, i look at it that fox news was the only one covering it to that extent. What is there to tell, power has been handed over, great wow look at that the whole story is the headline, no need to make a huge deal out of it. Also this was a secret handover, nobody was supposed to know yet somehow fox news has tons of information about it the second after it happens. Hmm why is this, a littl eadvance notice given to them, hmm thats not because they are the most biased (and that is saying something cause all news channels are biased) news channel here. here is an analogy for you, al jazeerah is to the middle east as fox news is to the US
