Vice Presidential Debate

Wait just one fucking minute, he's BLACK?!

HOLY. SHIT.

This changes everything.

No, shes not she simply resorted to smiling allot and give shout outs when she was not able to answer a quesiton because of being nervous or not having a legitimate argument in which to use "maveric" in. For example the education question where she talked about teachers in her familly, instead of addressing Bidens comment on the children first policy which failed miserably.

CNN INSTANT POLL

Winner: Biden - 51% Palin - 36%

Exceeded Expectations: Biden - 64% (20% met expectations) Palin - 84% (7% met expectations)

Is Palin ready to be president?

Pre-debate: Yes - 43% No - 54%

Post-debate: Yes - 46% No - 53%

I never said that, he's as far left as he can be while still trying to remain electable, there's a difference. Obama's whole playbook is straight out of "Rules for Radicals" by the communist Chicago community organizer, Saul Alinsky. Ever wonder why Obama chose to be community organizer in Chicago?

But what the hell do you know anyway? My family has lived through the farce of politics that is the left under that bastard Allende in Chile who destroyed the economy overnight.

She exceeded my expectations by a healthy margin and I still think her performance was underwhelming. I think this statistic is reflective of how low of standards we all had for her going into the debate, not that she actually did well.

Actually no. It's not a poll of CNN viewers, just a poll conducted by CNN. Asking "who won the debate" and "did Palin exceed your expecations, meet them or fall below" can't be accused of being partisan. The Fox News poll showed that Obama won the first debate, by the way. They responded by not telling anyone and not posting it on their website.

Er, Kerry won the first and third debates by low double digits, and lost the second.

It's true for the campaign BASED off of change they sure do talk a hell of a lot about the past of George Bush and others. And i would like to add..........who said that tonight??? Sarah Palin!

That poll number is completely insufficient.. CNN's target audience is liberals, I bet you go to Fox News and you'll see the opposite...

If Palin didnt exceed your expectations too, then your a fool..Even if you are against her.

Read the thread, I already answered this. The poll was not of CNN's audience, it was of debate watchers. It is a CNN poll only in so far as it was conducted by CNN, and the questions were too simple (ie who won) to be considered in any way biased.

you know what's funny, all the bullshit spewed before the debate talking about how Gwen was going to be unfair and skew the questions towards Biden. Give me a fucking break. Did anyone think Gwen was unfair moderating tonight?

Absolutely not, if anything she favoured Palin by failing to ask ANY unexpected questions. So she was able to read off a lot of scripted answers. If she'd gone way off the board, Palin would have suffered considerably more. I don't think she completely failed to moderate, but it would've been nice to see her keep on that tack she was on at the beginning in pointing out when they both failed to answer the question.

Polls are coming out on change in opinion (ie do you find x more knowledgeable than you did before the debate, more likeable, more electable). The numbers for both candidates are basically identical, they both helped themselves equally with the electorate in terms of image. In that sense I suppose you could call this one a draw?

Well judging from what you just said he could have repeated himself allot more because you seem to have missed his point of how much of a mess Bush got your country in, in past 8 year s: 3.5 trillion dollars of debt and nice war added to the mix, not to mention the current economic and housing crisis) Clinton had things rolling quite well during his presidency last i checked.

So yea is hard not to remind people of that, and even then not all of them including you get the message. That being said yes he did talk allot about that but only to refer to what exactly needs to be changed (the past 8 years).

Yea right, a draw...

Palin destroyed Biden. All you fools were going in expecting Palin to be a trainwreck, instead she spoke eloquently and overall sounded positive. Biden on the other hand, your 20 year political veteran and supposed "exceptional debator" was made to looks like a fool at times by a 2 year governor of Alaska. He was negative almost the whole time, he always had that creepy smile on every time Palin spoke, and was wholly unable to refute any of the statements he himself had made against Obama when they came up.

And whats with all these Canadians acting like there opinion is of any worth at all. When it comes down to it I'm the one who's going to be voting, while you vote for whoever it is that you vote for, I won't pass judgment on your Canadian elections.

she was avoiding the questions like crazy. i mean, of course i expected that, but it was still really frustrating.

While listening to Palin in the debate i couldn't help but feel like she knew absolutely nothing about what she was talking about. Not only could she not answer a single question with a straight forward answer, but instead of trying to point out what is wrong with Obama and Biden all she could talk about was how great she and McCain are. I remember on point where the question was about what she would do about bankruptcy and she started talking about energy and how she is an energy master.

and if i hear someone call John McCain a maverick one more time...

You're a moron. The US election is a global election, it matters to everyone, irrespective of where they live. If you need any more proof of that, look at how the TSX did when congress shot down the bailout plan this week. It doesn't matter where people live, they can still have legitimate opinions, and the reason you won't pass judgment on the Canadian election (were you even aware that we're having one?) is because you know absolutely nothing about it. If more people in your country actually took an interest in other countries' politics, you might gain some new insights. Well, probably not. I mean, if you're so blind that you actually thought Palin won, you're pretty much in the tank from the get-go. The most you can say about tonight is that she did way better than expected and held her own. She definitely did not win. You can't win by not answering the questions.

well... change is sort of the focus of their entire presidential campaign. i dont think maveric is for theirs. I nearly lost it when she said global warming wasnt caused by humain... thats flat out wrong

Ironically on MSNBC Hardball is on, and Chris and both his commentators agreed that Palin won because she "beat the spread".

If you factor in expectations going in and political/debate experience then yes Palin won. The way people were talking before the debate, Biden should have won by a landslide.

I'd say I know more about other countries than you do homie. Seeing as how I've spent a little under half of my life outside of the US. And the fact that I know more about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict than Biden does. I'd be surprised if anyone, anywhere in the world really cares about Canadian elections outside of Canada.

You clearly don't know more about international affairs if you think no one cares about Canadian elections outside of Canada. You should care, if only for simple economic reasons. What happens up here makes a much bigger difference to how things go down there than who wins elections in the Middle East, which gets coverage all over cable news down there. I won't say you don't know more than me, because I don't know you and you don't know me and it would take someone spectacularly and unwarrantedly arrogant (because you'd also have to be pretty bloody dumb) to say you know more than someone you don't know and don't know anything about. But judging by what you're saying here, I can't say I'm terribly impressed with your credentials. Feel free to post your IR degree though.

It doesn't matter if you factor in expectations, it's still a loss. If the Rams go up against the Titans and lose 33-30 in overtime, they'll exceed expectations and everyone will be impressed, but it still goes in the loss column. So don't start trying to tell people she won.

for a grown adult, that is the most uneducated comment i have heard in a while. They have been rising, but global temperature rise has been exponential over the past 250 years, ever since the start of the industrial revolution

Because I don't even think he honestly cares, until he looks around and realizes he's in Canada.

Dude spouts off worse than a liberal from Berkeley, and I've had my drunken arguments with them before.

The election is pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point, I think. The Conservatives will retain a minority government and the Liberals will lose a few seats because Dion has failed miserably as a leader. The only way for them to rebound is to depart significantly from the old Trudeau style of running the party by nominating Michael Ignatieff. Jack Layton is running a brilliant campaign and consequently the NDP is likely to pick up many of the seats the liberals lose and probably take one or two close races from the conservatives due to economic difficulties. But overall, we already know how this one's going to turn out, whereas the American race could go one of two extremely different directions.

Now, if the Conservatives win a majority government up here, you'll see me start worrying.

I Thought Paling did extraordinary!

I wouldn't say she "won" it, but I felt like after that she got some cred.

She really just talked to the people, not argued, but just talked.

And the mod was unbiased. I thought she was gonna try to stump palin with some trivia, but she was totally fair.

bankruptcy court adjusting the principal of a mortgage ? WTF????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dam i need Barack to really "dive deep" into that one.......
