Vice Presidential Debate

haha she realized what she said immediately once it slipped, so funny.

Loved Biden with the Maverick call out.

does she not know what compromise is? How do you have opposing sides and not have to make compromise

Did Palin just answer a question on how she'd lead on bipartisanship by railing on about what's wrong with the Democratic ticket?

... Did she understand the question?

compromise is bad. take your values and stick to em. no matter how wrong they are. that is the republican way

Great closer by Biden, using rhetorical devices to lead up to a final "Barack Obama is ready to be President of the United States". Well executed.

So, I don't think this was a KO. I think it was about a 60-40 or maybe 65-35 win for Biden, but that could have gone a LOT worse for her and I think she beat her expectations by a mile. I think he did too, and the fact that she wasn't completely embarassed might actually become the central point of this debate.

So wait, she asked right away if she could call him Joe, and then never did so once?

so its over. heres what i think.

biden won.

palin didnt fail nearly as badly as expected but biden still won.

she sidestepped alot of questions and got shut down on some others.

overall i was impressed how well she did, but she just sounded so scripted.

Chris Matthews: "I have never heard a person [like Palin] campaigning for an office while asking for that office's powers to be expanded... Not only will she not be doing any more interviews, but she won't answer the questions the way the moderater wants her to. She won't play by the rules and she wants more power, is that the message here?"

Immediate response from the panels is that Palin's refusal to answer the questions in front of her didn't play well; "I want to talk about taxes again..."

Of course she has to appear friendly. It's part of that act they put on every morning when they wake up.

yeah she did once at least..

I noticed early on where biden said obama and then in the next sentence said, John. that was interesting.

I wanted him to say only if i can call you hunny-bunny

Not a KO for sure, but now i almost question the authenticity of her interviews, could she have just been 'lowering the bar' so that she just had to do what she just did?

i mean she was a tv reporter, she's not exactly new to the camera...

regardless, I could have seen her do a fist pump and a 'naillleeed it; (a la jon stewart)

exactly. and if all you star struck, politcal rhetoric lovers truly want change then you better go with with someone who says stuff like that.

What is really interesting is the fact that she isnt even elected yet and already talked about altering the constitution.

Biden was too dumb to realize that the West Bank voted for the Fatah party and not Hamas.

He can't even distinguish the West Bank and Gaza, he's too focused on bashing Bush. I must have heard the name Bush mentioned more times by Biden than he mentioned Obama.

So don't ever tell me that Fox News isn't biased again.. I just turned it on and they asked a room of "undecided voters" who they thought won the debate. Palin won almost unanimously.

Fucking. Scary.

That's sort of like saying "If you truly want change, you should vote for the communist party, because they'll shake things up for sure". Altering the constitution to expand the Veep's powers after 8 years where the Veep has expanded those powers more than anyone in the nation's history doesn't sound like change, it sounds like a continuation of dangerous Bush / Cheney policies, but even if it WAS change, it'd be the wrong damn kind.

Was it just me or was Joe Biden trying to campaign for HIMSELF more then he was Barack HUSSEIN Obama. It sounds like to me that Biden was trying to get himself elected instead of his higher power. Palin was Supporting Mccain while Biden was talking about how great he was. Sounds to me that there are still some rough feelings between the ticket!

lol seriously. There was this thing on tv the other day where they went to Pennsylvania in a restaurant and asked who they were going to vote for, everyone raised their hand for obama and the guy is like "well it looks pretty evenly split here" hahahah

Right... and she said Mclellan was the commander in Afghanistan. It's actually McKiernan.

Watch the polls in the next couple of days....I think you will find she did win the debate.

I think a lot of Americans relate to her..especially moms.

the women independents on the CNN worm loved biden, they literally were going though the roof for him while dipping - on palin's counterpoints

you're comparing a slip of the tongue to not knowing shit about the Israel-Palestine situation?

I'm surprised Biden, the self-proclaimed "greatest friend to Israel in the Senate," wouldn't know who governs the West Bank. How about that for a "you can see Russia from Alaska" moment?

did he actually say hamas was in power or did he just recognize them as a legitimate constituency, contrasted with others who call it a terrorist organization?

It's not a slip of the tongue if you say it four separate times, dude. She named the wrong commander. But that kind of thing isn't what dictates who won these debates anyway, which is why no one's talking about it. What will determine the lasting factors of this debate will be whether people buy the connection between Bush and McCain and whether Palin's folksy attitude will be considered endearing or unpresidential.

She may have exceeded expectations (which were extremely low after her interviews) but she in no way WON the debate. She dodged questions and never gave a full answer related directed to a question. Biden had his way with her in many instances and there was not one substantial Palin rebuttal directed at him.

He claimed that under the "failed" Bush policy that Hamas had taken control through democratic elections in the West Bank, which is completely false. The West Bank is governed by the more moderate Fatah party. I'd put a good deal of money on that I know more about Israel than the "greatest friend to Israel in the Senate"

I think the fact that she refused to answer questions and was unable to rebut certain factual assertions about McCain's voting record and comments in the past will disallow any possibility of anyone reasonably thinking she actually won tonight. But I think the fact that she didn't say anything completely ridiculous or lose track of what she was talking about to the point of parodying herself (she did get off track a fair bit but no worse than happens occasionally in debates) will mean that this won't hurt her. Which I think is a "win" for the McCain campaign in that sense. If people start thinking of McCain as more Bush as a result of what was said tonight, it's a loss for his campaign. I'm not sure that'll happen.

Matthews will be on at 12pm est on MSNBC, if you have it I suggest watching, he's really good at this post debate stuff.

do you think she won't have any more interviews with Katie Couric?

I hope that someone will hold her feet to the fire and make her answer the question.

Keith Olbermann is reporting that McCain is pulling his entire campaign out of Michigan entirely: no direct mail, no staff, no ads. Is that true?

Goodbye credibility... yeah, Barack is a Communist. He's a terrorist too, I hear.

i think my point is that she stumbled all over the place with every interview she has given thus far, it'll bring her debate into question if she falls back into her pattern of awful interviews
