Very well put criticism of aerials from Powder

Pretty good article. Has some solid points and also some not so good ones.

Personally, I really don't want any form of freeskiing in the olympics. Everything that gets to the olympics looses something important to the sport. Look at snowboarding, from what I here most of them are total tool bags that are dicks when you talk to them. As for freeskiers? They are all super chill and most are easy to talk to. Most Olympic snowboarders see a new trick and think "shit now I gotta do it." freeskiing is different, they think the same thing but not with the same competition as snowboarding. Most freeskiers are mad stoked when they see a new trick or a dope run or something, and I feel that that vibe would be lost if freeskiing entered the olympics in any form.

As for aerials and mogules. They are both skiing, aerials is done on skis, therefore skiing in my opinion. And moguls takes a he'll of a lot of skill at skiing. I can't do it for shit.

Hopefully everything makes sense. My grammer skills aren't the greatest...

i'm not really sure if this is a completely valid argument or not, but the thought just popped into my head...
they call it freestyle skiing in the olympics, but with all the structure they have and the exact things they have to do correctly in order to score points, how much of aerials is actually "free"? as the article stated, there is very little progression in the sport and it has been pretty much the same for a long time. That means that the athletes have very little room to be free in their trick choices. in big air and every other freeskiing comp that we are all familiar with, the athletes are free to do whatever trick they want. They can do any combination of flips, grabs, and rotations in order to score the highest, but in aerials it seems to me that there are certain things that an athlete must do. I just feel that labeling aerials as "freestyle" is completely untrue because the skiers just cant really be "free" in their style.

the only argument i disagree with is the progression one. not that our sport hasnt progressed more than areials in the last decade but the level of progression is going to level off soon its not physically possible to spin and flip much more. but our sport is more open to innovative tricks and that is the way our sport will progress after we have reached the physical limits. aerials doesnt allow that they only require you do the tricks as stiff and boner as possible and strive for the "perfect" trick what a crock of shit.
