I was in the shop yesterday, and I was looking at their coats, and they seem like they have declined drastically from last year. The fabric felt so thin and flimsy. It also felt like there was next to no insulation in the raven jacket.
 
i know wut u mean...the new ten4 seemed downgraded too...thats y i bought last years at half price...but the new tatical pants look soo dope
 
what does the 5000 vs 10000 waterproofing mean. i mean what units are the numbers representing? like stiches per inch or something?
 
i think the 04/05 ten4 is 5,000 waterproofing...if u spend alot of ur time in the park its not gonna matter too much, unless u suck and fall each time...and if it is that case ull get damp and stuff. but honestly 5,000 seems to be enuf for me and i ski all park on the east coast
 
mm water resistance... essentially what happens to test this is they'll get a tube of water held up against the material for 24 hours and given a mm rating depending on the amount of water pressure it can withstand before it starts to leak through. That's before stitching though, so if it's not seam sealed water can get in through those holes obviously.
 
haha man i did the exact same thing...that 70 percent off sale was misleading being it only on a single rack on spyder jackets.

the siver stuff just seemed thin and weak. not worth 200 for a ten 4 and like 260 or 280 or the raven. even the insulated raven seemed thin.
 
I don't know if they downgraded quality or if they just made the Raven a shell instead of an insulated.

haha... alright the reason why the fabric is "flimsier" is because you are comparing insulated to shell. i have both types of coats (insulated and shell) from both years... there is no difference between the years. siver isnt making shittier stuff... Insulated is $20 more and is warmer and thicker... you had an insulated coat last year and you are feeling a shell at the new store...
 
idk, it flet like it had some insulation. Plus the fabric felt extremely thin. I'm not saying they're bad or anything. I was just surprised by how much different they were from last years.
 
The logic in your statement isn't that great. The consumer could give a shit less about looking at it from Siver's point of view. The consumer wants quality product that looks good for their hard earned money. Why would you waste your money on inferior waterproofing and stitching just because we "have to look at it from Siver's point of view."?

Siver's products aren't inexpensive, but the quality is poor.
 
dude i really dont get why people are ragging on siver... they are the only company 100% supporting skiing, and last time i saw, i could be wrong now, most of the Oakley stuff was as low if not lower mm waterproofing, and everybody is crazy about that shit...
 
Dude, I'm not ragging on Siver. I didn't call them names or exaggerate anything. I simply stated that I'm not going to look at it from their point of view when my hard earned money is on the line.

Oakley has several series of gear. ALL of Siver's stuff is 5000mm. Oakley has some stuff that is up to 20,000mm. They do support skiing which is cool but people do have a right to be disappointed when they find out their stuff gets soaked or the stiches are pulling out.
 
When H/H, Sessions, and other companies that do pay attention to skiing, and make decent quality gear with style for the same price as Siver, why should I buy Siver if I don't have a lot of money to spend.

Having adequate waterproofing for the money spent, and stitches that don't unravel are not technical features. Siver isn't some bargain brand with style, their prices are competitive with everyone elses but their features aren't.
 
i have the siver hull pants and skied pow all day yesterday at keystone and all day today at breck and i had ZERO problems. these are the best ski pants ive owned..no need to bad talk siver, they really do support the ski industry 100%...if you dont like there stuff then dont get it, simple as that.
 
although i 100% agree with you, most kids that wear siver don't ski pow very much at all. huge stereotype, but i dare anyone to try and tell me otherwise.
 
The comment about the oakley stuff being less waterproof is so true. I think it comes down to people looking at the teams they have. Not to diss on Siver or their team, they both are very supportive of skiing, but they are not at the level of oakley as far as a team goes. Its a fact.
 
i ski as much pow as possible and i have siver pants......of course i just bought them this season. skied a few good pow days in them and they've held up ok (they replaced a totally shot pair of dub pants) but it's been dry snow so far this season and i'm probably gonna need a pair of pants with better waterproofing before the snow gets un-dry.
 
Paid 500cdn for my fill ripzone trilogy suit. 20, 000mm waterproofing. couldnt be happier. I was looking at the siver gear but it just didnt compare for the money. still nice stuff though
 
i respect what siver is trying to do in the industry...but when you can get helly hansen for cheaper, and its way better, why would you buy siver?
 
Exactly. Nothing but love and respect, but at the same time, when I can get better Burton pants for less money, or get North Face pants that are better for the same money and solve the "no style"problem by getting a pair in XL, why buy Siver?

The problem is that if you don't buy Siver Cartel outerwear now, they don't make money to reinvest in the company, meaning that they can't make their shit better. And if stores don't see a demand for Siver outerwear, they won't up their orders, again meaning that Siver can't funnel increased amounts of cash into better fabrics, more seam taping,etc.

So, it's a catch 22. You don't wanna buy Siver because it's just not that good, but if you don't, it'll never get better. Of course, if you don't give any amount of shit whatsoever about freeskiing having its own sustainable, long term companies, this doesn't matter to you at all. Trouble is, they should come out with GOOD, usable product from the get-go. But then that costs money, so...ahhhhhhhhhh see what I'm getting at?!??!?!!?
 
i cant say that at full price its the best deal around. but i got my ten 4 jacket for 120 last season and my tactical pants for 80 all brand new and i gotta say i love the stuff and was definitly worth the money.

as far as the waterproofing goes no problems yet. i will say that ive worn the jacket in some heavy ass rain and i stay completely dry but the outside of the jacket tends to absorb a good bit of water where as other jackets ive had will drip dry much faster. been peachy in snow so far though.
 
its not that siver is "bad" at all. they are amazing for the freesking industry. he was noticeing, as i have that the newer siver clothing felt flimsier. like on the raven. last years raven, which lineskier101 owns, feels tougher than this year. both are insulated. the insulation is thin on both, but on his, it actually feels like it isnt the thinnest thing out there, like thinnner than my adidas fleece. hes just noticing a difference between last years and this years. nevermind.
