Vegetarianism

my friend just became vegan which is pretty fucking intense that means like no chocolate, ice cream or anything like that. i dont think i could do it

yeah so im a vegitarian and it SUCKS. im not one by choice.

=4th grade we raised chicks in class and i stopped eating eggs/omlettes.

= i saw my grandfather kill a chicken when i was a little lassy living in the russian countryside, after that the next time i ate meat i got really sick to my stomach.

then i avoided meat for a few years and then my stomach flipped a shit when i ate a cheeseburger at a 4th of july thing. then i started drinking soy milk cause its healthy and my mom is a health freak.

i rarely get enough protein in a day, maybe 30% a day on average? i try, but tofu just freaks me out and those veggie burgers dont really have that much protein i would have to eat like 3 or 4 of them and they are def. not that tasty tht i would want to do that. i used to eat soybeans and protein bars/shakes but i just kinda gave up a year or two ago and since i havent died and my doctor hasn't noted any difference in my bone density, etc. etc.

so i dont really think about it anymore but i def want to start eating meat, im prob gonna force myself to eat a burger this summer, wish me luck

more like a cult

and being a veg doesn't mean you're healthier, rather people who eat well, including proper amounts of meat, are much healthier than a person who is strictly vegetarian, a lot of veg's i know look sick 90% of the time, cannot participate in athletics because they're too weak, and usually have bags under their eye and or are really pale, just eat the fucking cow okay? it was bred for you to EAT so eat the fucker already, no one will miss the fucking cow

in your rant you said something about proven facts. guess what a fact is already proven so you are just being redundant. i love meat, love taco bell, love Macdonald's, i eat what i want and im one of the most fit kids ever so fuck vegetarianism.

only vegetarians I have a distaste for are fad vegetarians, and those that preach thier eating choices to others.

I once had a conversation that went like this:

fad vegan girl: "Omg, I just became a vegan last week"

me: "nifty"

other dude: "yo the pizza's here, we got one cheese and one pepperoni"

fad vegan girl: "omg that cheese pizaa looks sooo good, okay, I'm going to start being a vegan tomorrow, I promise!"

But yeah, eat whatever the hell you want. Far too many vegetarian/vegan people try and push thier beliefs on others or tell people that what they are doing is wrong. Respect to those who respect others decisions and mind thier own business.

I was SO going to post that...

Anyways, my friend has that shirt, and he always wears it to hippy shindigs. Gets a lot of funny looks if yanawmean.

"The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for men" - Alice Walker

"The time will come when people will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men" - Leonardo Da Vinci

"We call them dumb animals, and so they are, for they can not tell us how they feel, but they do not suffer less because they have no words" - Anna Sewell

"In extending our moral concern beyond the boundaries of our own species, so as to respect the consciousness of all sentient individuals, we are tackling the most important moral issue of the millennium" - Richard Ryder

"I am in favour of animal rights as well as human rights. That is the way of the whole human being"

-Abraham Lincoln

"I feel very deeply about vegetarianism and the animal kingdom. It was my dog Boycott who led me to question the right of humans to eat other sentient beings" - Cesar Chavez

"A man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all animals. He sets them to work, he gives them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself" - George Orwell.

"I do not see a delegation for the Four Footed. I see no seat for the Eagles. We forget and we consider ourselves superior. But we are after all a mere part of Creation. And we must consider to understand where we are. And we stand somewhere between the mountain and the Ant. Somewhere and only there as part and parcel of the Creation." - Chief Oren Lyons, of the Onondaga Nation in the Iroquois Confederacy.

There are some quotes in favour of animals. I'm not saying I agree with all of them nor am I trying to push my views on anyone, but it is a thread where vegetarianism is being discussed so I thought they were appropiate. We (We being the civilized) need to step back and take a look at what animals and wild peoples (whats left of them),as well as the land and ocean and rivers are doing and consider their needs and ideas, and follow examples of living wild entities. The true equlibrium of living.

I personally believe that since the human body is naturally attuned to be omnivorous, a heathy diet includes meat. However, I could care less whether some one is a vegan, vegetarian, or whatever. It's your own lifestyle, but more importantly it has no adverse effect on people around you. If anyone is going to jab me for eating meat, I'll dish it right back. If you take yourself to seriously, I will enjoy making your life hell.

So I have a question for all you vegans and vegetarians out there...if you don't eat meat because you don't like the taste or whatever, this doesn't really apply. But if you don't eat it because its harming and killing animals, then it does.

Do you use soap?

are you talking about the whole soap is made out of whale blubber thing? yeah, try a couple centuries ago.

i don't eat meat. i don't have any agenda with my non-consumption of meat, it just grosses me out. i still eat seafood. sushi is way too delicious to give up.

you can definately be healthy by eating your vegetables. a hand full of hemp seeds has as much protein in it as a small steak, plus rice and tofu and what not has essential fats that are easier and more efficent for your body to digest.

but meat is good too, but like, moderation... having your colon filled with undigested beef and mcdonalds french fries would really really really suck alot.

and thats all i have to say about that

Ya what El Gato said...the vast majority of soap is made from Lard. Basically a Hydrolysis reaction is run on Animal Fat to make soap. Hardly centuries ago.

most soap nowadays is glycerin soap anyways. that's a silly thing to debate about though.

well everyone knows that hippies dont shower....

but seriously that doesnt matter because you can buy vegan soaps and shampoos.

i think they cost alot more though...

quinoa is hte only grain that has every essential amino acid present. You vegetarians should start eating more of that.

guess what, I eat meat AND vegetables. Citris fruits are pretty much my favorite though, along with Strawberries.

Wow, i want to go eat.

GO GO OMNIVORE. best of both worlds

i fail to see how being a vegeterian is more ethical or peaceful. I don't eat too much meat, but i definitely enjoy my roast beef, salmon, tuna, chicken,  and turkey. If anything being a vegeterian would be more stressful because i would constantly be looking at ingredient labels trying to decipher the cryptic ingredient labels to see if there is any meet or anything. Eating chicken does not make a life more or less ethical or peaceful, sorry. There are about a million other factors that contribute to how turbulent your life is, but my decision to have a chicken sandwich for lunch is not going to make my life more or less ethical or peacful

To quote Steven King, "At the bottom, you see, we are not homo sapiens at all. Our core is madness. The prime directive is murder. What Darwin was too polite to say, is that we came to rule the earth not because we were the smartest, or even the meanest, but because we have always been the craziest, most murderous motherfuckers in the jungle."

You're vegetarian? Good for you, I have no problem with that. I just don't think that humans came to the top of the food chain to eat a carrot.

yeah i'm really not all that sad about the lost life of the cow i ate for dinner tonight, so eating animals does not weigh heavily on my conscience animals eat other animals right? and human beings are part of the animal kingdom right? so henceforth it is no more unethical for a human being to eat a cow than a lion to eat a gazelle or zebra or what have you

what really gets my blood boiling is the whole hemp fiasco, there's a reason hemp is not our primary textile, and it's not because we grow cotton in the US, it's because hemp feels like shit on your skin, cotton is 100x softer, to top it off, the "hemp" products that feel nice to the touch are 85% polyester, they have to blend it with other shit to make it so it doesn't irritate your skin. Hemp seeds taste like shit, and yes they have protein, but there are multiple forms of proteins and you need them all meat, contains all forms of proteins, hemp seeds, not so much. as i posted previously, no one is going to miss the damn cow, i'll take my leather shoes, and my fur hoodie with me every where i go, and i will eat any animal in the animal kingdom so long as it is tasty

Um... wow I didn't realize people loved their meat so much.

Individual choices guys, get over it.

If I feel I'm living my life better than if I would be if I was eating meat, then why does it matter to anyone but me?

It really doesn't matter, that's what most people have said. It just makes some people mad when people who are super avid about their veggieism push it on other people, make documentaries about how horrible eating meat is, etc... Basically i couldn't care less if you eat meat or not, it doesn't bother me until i get a lecture about how i'm personally responsible for making some cow suffer.

because you attack other people's life style, so our natural reaction is to attack back, it's fine if you wanna be a veg, but just keep it to yourself, don't go running down the street with peta, it just pisses people off and doesn't do any good, when you claim yourself as a vegetarian and state you live a more "ethical and peaceful" life, you come off as smug thinking your better than everyone else, i'm not saying that was the intent behind your statement, but that's how it comes across to the majority of people
