Vancouver/Whistler premieres

Hey everyone,

It's almost that time of year again, so I figured I'd fire up a thread where we can post info for the premieres taking place in Vancouver and Whistler this Fall all in one place.

Here's the ones I know about so far...

Vancouver

Brain Farm/Red Bull's The Art of Flight - September 14th at The Centre for Performing Arts

MSP's Attack of La Nina - September 29th at the Park Theatre

TGR's One For The Road - October 12th at the Ridge Theatre

PBP's The Grand Bizarre - November 5th at Granville 7 Cinemas

Whistler

Brain Farm/Red Bull's The Art of Flight - September 12th at the Whistler Conference Centre

MSP's Attack of La Nina - September 30th at Millennium Place

TGR's One For The Road - October 14th at Millennium Place

If you know of more premieres or hear about new ones popping up, please post in this thread, and I'll be sure to do the same.

Thanks!

bummed im not going to be around for MSP's or Redbull's. Hoping we get an after dark premiere closer then seattle...

lol what a joke of a price. I'm sure everyone remembers that the That's It That's All Vancouver premiere was free

It was actually the day after, but you're totally right. However it was pretty annoying that after years of people pleading with me to put on an event like that in Vancouver that they couldn't wait a day to go skiing in favor of supporting the event (all of the athletes that came had no problem doing so). So as a result of that and the loss of thousands of dollars due to the lack of support, IF3 Vancouver will most likely never happen again.

I do agree that it was unfortunate how it turned out, but it's a hard sell when Vancouver's primarily a premiere market. IF3 happened after many of the movies had shown in Vancouver through their independent premieres, and combined with the Whistler opening it created the dismal showing.

In Montreal it's the exact opposite, it is dominantly an IF3 culture and no ski movie ever has an independent premiere there in the last 5 years. In fact I'm organizing an event for Level 1 here for November, and we've had to work around that to make sure we succeed under those circumstances - by hosting it at a club and holding it as a zero-cost event to significantly lower the ticket prices, in addition to other measures we've taken to guarantee attendance.

It's also a sad fact that what people say (especially online) is never what they do. I've learned that the hard way many times and it's now a pet peeve of mine to never trust anything coming out of people's mouths online or otherwise, and assume the worst case scenario.

For the future, if IF3 Vancouver is ever explored again personally I would try an entirely different approach from the Montreal event. The traditional theatre showing type event will not succeed in Vancouver, plain and simple. Something like a three day event where movies are shown at different clubs every night with cover, perhaps an outdoor screening followed by a party at the same location, maybe even switching the location to whistler rather than Vancouver would yield better results due to the demographic.

Ultimately Schmuck, I think you deserve a huge thank you from all of us for trying so hard and listening to what we said. At the end of the day, collectively we were at fault for not making the best of what we were given, and not supporting all the hard work you put into the event.

Couldn't agree more, Vancouver had its chance. Its just unfortunate that it was after all the individual premieres. People lost interest.

Hi guys!

I'm new in vancouver, and still a bit lost in here... anyone knows where does the afterparty take place?

It's... complicated. I was supposed to support a guy organizing it this year since I'm in Montreal and running our own independent premiere event over here. A couple weeks ago the guy sent both myself and Level 1 an email suddenly saying he couldn't do it, because his fiance called off their wedding with three weeks to go. SO. I have no flippin' idea.

That being said, if anyone is willing to assume his position I am still willing to support and connect them with all the necessary people. I already have graphics from my event here that I can adapt easily, and I will try to help you with a lot of the initial communication process. PM me if you're interested, but only if you are absolutely willing and committed to make this happen, 100%. No maybes, no buts.

For everyone in Whistler, the good people at the Longhorn Saloon are hosting ski movie premieres each and every Sunday night (during Longhorn's Legendary Locals Night) between now and December 18th! Here's the details...

Here's two more premiere updates...

I just heard from Darren at Voleurz that their Vancouver premiere is going down on Thursday, November 10th (Friday is Remembrance Day, so you can get your drink on) at Club Five Sixty. Stay tuned to Voleurz' Facebook page for more details: http://www.facebook.com/Voleurz

And Napes from 4bi9 has informed me that UBC Ski & Board is presenting a 4bi9 Media/Field Productions premiere on Wednesday, November 16th at the Cellar.
