Vancouver needs to step it up

out of 64 participants at Lord of the Park this year, only 5 were from Vancouver. You guys suck ass.

seriously though, why the large void from the biggest and closest population of skiers?

of those five, three came up in my car: myself, graham, and bizquick.

if you are living in the city, skiing probably isn't your number one priority, otherwise you would be living in a ski town. alot of the skiers in vancouver are largely recreational skiers and wouldn't be actively competing.

most skiers in vancouver are either students or are employed. if you have to work the weekend, you arent going skiing. if you are a student, it could be in your academic interests to study. if you are a full time student like myself, you probably aren't skiing as much as you used to and are not as competitive as you could be.

myself, i just came for the bro down.

You'd be surprised to know how many people in Vancouver never get up the mountains, and I'm obviously not criticizing them, but unless you have been raised and taught skiing with your family (implying that you also have the financial resources to do so), you are not likely to ski very much at all.

I would have competed had I not broke my arm... a bunch of Grouse people were supposed to go but I think no one found rides in the end.

A lot of the grouse kids are too young to own a car and had a hard time getting out there. There wasn't as much publicity in Van as in Whistler or elsewhere, either.

a lot of vancouver people are really lazy and not at the same level as the interior or whistler skiers so they really dont want to go drive for hours and hours to know that they dont even have a chance in a big comp. others just really like drinking and gettin up at 6am or whatever just doesn't happen when your out till 4 the night before. and some people just dont ski to compete. competitions are lame. skkiing really fast is better

Try 3 hours from Van, tops. That's if you don't take the detour to JD's house then out to the boarder crossing... Oops.

i guess there were a few vancouverites on the sidelines, either hurt or they don't really ski park. but there are so many of you fuckers at grouse and only a few came. i'm not talking about vancouver as a whole, I mean all you kiddies that make up the grouse cult and rock the local mountains. I know your there and I know you compete and like to have fun skiing. It's only a 2.5 hour drive. Was it a lack of rides? Does pete feel he is inadequate. Let me know I want to fix this. It should be worth it for anyone to come out and ski, even if you aren't XGames Dorey, i mean justin

Other than the 100% random LOTP poster that I inexplicably saw up at SFU, there was no local advertising.

Sad but true: many vancouver skiers aren't in whistler because skiing isn't, unfortunately, #1 for them, and so it's something that they do "recreationally", whether that be 5 days a year or 40, and so competing isn't necessarily something they want to do.

And shit, I didn't go cuz I just suck.

all i have to say is fuck school. school in vancouver has ruined my skiing. i went from 70-100 days on snow to 21 this year. maybe next year i will get to lord of the park.

skool just mkaes it harder, last year i went full time and got 101 days in ( thats when i lived on the north shore) now i am at ubc and its a bit harder but i am at 53 days right now.

WEINER! jeffs not little. he told me so 2 days ago.

There were posters at comor in vancouver and a few select places and if there weren't any at other stores its my distributors fault.

however, there were so many skiers that are on NS from vancouver that didnt come out. THere was plenty of advertisitng on here.

simon im glad you realize you suck

But if you're not going to compete, why go to a contest? Don't get me wrong LOTP looks like a fucking great time, cool contest, and a good after-party, but if you're not there to compete or have anything to do with the organizing or some other part of the thing, why go?

i'd probably check it out, but i'm not good enough to compete. I just ski grouse, and i think lots of people do that.

you need to rent a party wagon (classic limosine bus) to start in whistler, drive through vancouver, pick up everyone who doesnt have a ride, and then home again. problem solved. just make sure there is plenty of beer for the ride home...

make it a jam session as well, not strictly a comp and im sure more people will show...not many van people are into comps. if its something like a west coast gathering/wicked rad session im sure more people would be inclined to come. comps are cool and all but LOTP should be a session. promote it like a time to session with your friends, meet other shredders and throw down with the best on the west coast all in a laid back environment with wicked cool features. ontop of that have a comp open to those who feel like stepping up...if you want to attract the average rider, make the average rider feel welcome.

i was going to come... then i knocked myself out for 5 hours in whis a week before.

im defenetly coming next year

that is pretty much the exact words from my marketing campaign. its all just a big jam session its just that you have the opportunity to win a fuck load of stuff. either way you would have to pay. so being technically in a comp is bad? it costs the same but you have the chance to win a fuck load of stuff. I realize last year there wasnt a whole lot given away to non-winners (you're all still winners in my mind), but that was a mistake by some of the sponsors. all the previous years people have got shit for nothing.

When i was young, we would show up to events to have a good time. if you felt like competing you did. i've never been to an event where you feel you hate the other competitors and can't have a fun time. even the grouse rail jam 2 years ago.

I've been told by most people lotp is laid back and fun. if it isnt anymore, tell me. If you have never been. come. if you have never been to an event. show up to one, they are amazingly fun.

Rails were far too gnarly this year. Too big to trick for most of the people that went. Also the size difference of the jumps kind of sucked. It was either an almost inexistant jump, a tiny tiny jump or a huge jump, like 10 feet, 20 feet, and 60 feet. Something in between would have been good. Like a 20, 45, and 60 footer. I heard from alot of the kids at the top that they didn't want to trick the big jump cause it wasn't worth it, and the medium jump was just shaped weird so tricking wasn't ideal off that either.

this is probably really redundant, but put the big jump in the middle of the table next year.

The big jump was widely liked by most of the guys I knew. It took sometime to get use to but they said they really enjoyed it

aggro courses bum me out. proper down rail and a mellow jump (not small, just mellow) would seperate men and boys. Make the course fun to ride and riders will make it fun to watch.

flat downs need to be banned from slopestyles.

something like this

11631170851157070883jump.jpg

that jump is huuuge, and it has so much transition before the lip of the jump

ok mellow take off. i was thinking jump as a whole. that is obviously one of my goals/priorities. as the event grows, hopefully my power to influence the park people will as well.

Get there earlier and direct them while they build perhaps? Bring the Dave to assist?

thanks dude. too bad we didn't really get to ski together. i had a really fun time on the slope that day, i always do when i ski... i miss it, but the edumakation thing is really starting to work out.

ps - i might be rusty, but i still got it

check out www.rip.tv sometime too, new company that i have recently started working for.

oh, and get ready for the beachies classic this year too. diving board needs to get replaced eh? and at brohm a fallen tree is blocking the big rope swing. i have serious work to do this summer. details should be finalized by the end of this weekend. look for news release monday.

if you can manage to build a table somewhat like the one in that pic (i know manning has a long enough landing to achieve it you'd just have to raise it up a bit so it's not gnar step downlike) than you can expect the best throwdown lord of the park has ever seen.

Uh, guys, try and go a little easier on Brian, he's not the only guy who had some responsibility for that park, and truth be told, the actual building of it wasn't really up to him. Manning fucked up hard and dropped the ball, and Brian had to deal with what they gave him.

Constructive criticism = good. But there's no need to be super harsh about it. In this case, less hating and more helping would be appropriate. If we can't keep it together and help each other out, we've gotten nowhere. I've heard a lot of good about LOTP, but giving Brian tons of shit won't exactly encourage him to do put it together again, now will it?!

First person to make some crack about me hating on shit gets the "captain obvious" award for blatant stupidity, and maybe a punch in the face, depending on how I personally feel about them.

has anyone ever done that flat down flat that was under the chair at lotp? it was hhuuuuggggeeeee. and it was fairly skinny too. shits nuts
