ok well i have a chance to go to vail next winter for a week but i need to pay for most of the plane and lift tickets..(no hotel needed cause i know people there) the thing is that if im gonna do this im gonna need to work all summer to pay for it so im wodering if its worth it..im from upstate NY so ive never skied back bowls or anything so im guessing it is def worth the money for the expierence

i've been to vail like 10 times but my parents pay for it.
it's def. worth it to work to be able to go skiing but if you are going to choose a place, vail might not be the best. its very expensive there and the terrain isn't as hard and other places out west.
if i were you i would def. go to whistler instead. the terrain there is a lot larger and more difficult. the nigthlife is also a lot better. they also have great terrain parks. whistler is also a lot cheaper because its canadian money.
in conclusion i would def. work all sumer but i would re-think where i was gunna go. if you end up deciding on vail for w.e reason you'll find the back bowls and blue sky basin amazing. vail is def. one of the best resorts out there but it can get crowded on holidays. spend as muc htime as you can skiing the back, blue sky, and the park

i would go to utah. much better chance of good snow and the terrain is much steeper and better. there are many cheap hotels in the salt lake area and its a short drive to a bunch of different resorts. vail is tight but it costs like 70 bucks a day or somethin and there isn't much steep terrain.

you might like it consdering your skiing in new york, but for me living in colorado, i didn't think it was anything special. i actually hate it.

dont listen to this kid, colorado is the place to go. vail is pretty sick, but if u want to you can also hit copper(which has amazing back country), keystone(one of the sickest parks in the world),breck(has some of the biggest features in their park and has good back country), A-basin(which has absolutly crazy back country)and aspen which is also amazing. Plus all of these mountains are 30 min from eachother MAX. CO kills it
He's from NY, it's not like he needs some place like Alta or Whistler to challenge himself. I had around 50 days at Vail this year and couldn't be happier. I don't think I'll live here next year but wouldn't give up this past season for anything. You won't find anything crazy inbounds, but I'm sure this kid will be happy with easily accessable 10-20ft cliffs, techy stuff off of Primas, and wide open bowls to shred. This place probably is the best place for him to go. How many of you even live here and are bashing Vail? It's probably safe to say that you ar all just regurgitating what others have said.

well considering you having skied bc shit at all vail is fine for you. when i went to vail (im from ny too) i had the time of my life skiing the cliffs in the backbowls. nothing was really challenging but you could always build jumps off the cliffs or fly at a line super fast if you get bored. theres some great skiing in marked off areas too
yeah well i still have some time to think about it..im hoping to get some good park days in but what im really looking for is some sick BC cause i can ski some sick park in VT any time i want..BC around here is a foot of powder through the woods being chased by ski partol the whole time

vail is awsome on a powder day, the back bowls are awsome, the park is ok. if i were you id go to whistler, it probably costs just as much and i thought it was soooo much better, i never got a powder day, but even without it has the best backcountry ever, i hardly ever went to the park when i was there either, and i usually never go out of the park. it easily beats vail or any place in colorado or utah or anywhere in the u.s. for backcountry.

well then id say vail, unless you can go like 3 hours away, then id say crested butte, or steamboat which is like 1 hour away. then theres aspen, telluride, and SILVERTON, but i havent been to any of those. you cant go wrong as long as you dont go to copper, wp, keystone, beaver creek, breck or any other place like that, cause it sounds like you want backcountry, and those places kinda suck for that.

go to vail! i went last winter and it was fucking awesome. especially if you are from the east coast, you will appreciate all of the bowls so much more. vail is for sure one of my favorite mountains.

The Canyons in Utah is the same price as Vail, if not more possibally, and if your smart you know how to get deals on tickets, like grocery stores, and your buddy's pass...and to comment on terrain, i thought the same thing until i went there w/ my friend and if you hike out of blue sky a bit, it gets pretty hairy, and steep w/ some huge cliffs, and inbounds there are some monster cliffs and steep sections, just go w/ someone that knows there way around, trust me its good that Most ppl dont know where the goods are there, but if someone can show you around, and you go maybe a few days to a week after a storm you can find some powder

just go to vail. you won't be disappointed. the chances of a powder day are much less than if you went to utah but you'll still have fun coming from the east coast. copper is right over the pass if you want to switch it up a bit

There is a reason why Vail has been the number one resort in North America for most of the past 10 years. Vail is an amazing mountain.
As for nearby, there is Beaver Creek (everybody hates it too, makes me happy, less people getting my fresh tracks) and then you have Copper, Breck, Keystone and A-Basin all within about 45 minutes to an hour away.
Oh, did i mention you can go to all of them except Copper on the same lift ticket (granted you buy it in Vail or Beaver Creek)
