Going to assume you haven't actually been to whistler before because you just described what Whistler already is. You could at least try to know what you're talking about.

Actually I have been to Whistler recently. It is not at the extent vail is at yet. Whistler is awesome. Hope vail keeps it that way. Going to assume you haven't been to Vail before...

I've been to Vail (proper). Besides terrain, the only difference I can think of is that the speed police don't make you go to safe skiing seminars at Whistler.

What do you mean I love the Epic pass? Northstar being built up keeps the idiots away from the place closeby that hosted the Olympics. Heavenly keeps tourists from Seirra and Kwood.

PC and Summit don't appeal to me so there hasn't been a reason to buy it since the first year Kwood was on it but Whistler changes my opinion.

Vail is getting my money again because of this monopoly move. I got it once in 2012-2013 because I knew I'd be driving through Colorado a couple times and Kwood was new to it. But I don't like PC or Summit. I like Whistler and Kirkwood and staying in casinos next to Heavenly when I ski Kwood. Being able to roll up for free skiing after pre-paying in May/June will be the fucking shit. I don't fucking rough it and would never stay in a hostel or really shit hotel things will be a lot more doable without worrying about 150 a day to ski.

Vail the mountain might be overrated but the corporation is awesome this move makes me go from 'not buying' to 'buying'.

Have you been to Squaw recently? It's being overrun by shitbags and they're about to build some fuckshit monstrosity in order to 'compete' with northstar for the bullshit ritz carlton crowd... the northstarification is real and i do not like it one bit.

as far as working for vail, having been a vail resorts employee, i can tell you, it's a fucking JOKE... I would never work for them again with how many times they've screwed both my friends and myself on the simplist, most who-gives-a-shit stuff.

I agree with working for Vail. They do not care about you as an employee. This goes from base level employee on up to management. You are a number. You are disposable. End of story.

The water park and all that will never get built at Squaw. But its just people whining about wanting easy parking and to not have to take a shuttle from somewhere in Truckee. Whatever maybe it would mean more shuttles from Reno those are getting fewer and fewer feels like a long time ago you didn't need to rent a car to ski.

SV is obviously a big enough mountain to support a hotel. Best skiing and most terrain in the USA hands down when the snow is good.

I think they need to connect Alpine and open some more of the sidecountry terrain surrounding the 2. Id put up with worse parking for more terrain. Not going to happen looks like Squaw will stay as it is.

There are 2 sides to everything. Squaw expanding their village and making people take shuttles could cut down on traffic. Have something that leaves every 15-20 minutes from Boomtown a few miles west of Reno and the car total will be cut down big time.

Downsides to the Epic pass dont' make it not a good value. Whistler will be a total shitshow at certain times but I look forward to sneaking in trips off peak if I have an Epic. Vail owning it probably means they'll have employees to open all the lifts before Christmas if there is enough snow. Last year Whistler had the snow but not the employees. The place won't feel so overrun by Australians at least even if the crowds will suck.

Just out of curiosity what job did you have?

I've worked in both retail and on-hill operations for Vail resorts.

Never again.

...and I agree that we need more shuttles, but people coming from the bay area spent all that money on their audi for the quattro, man.. they want to drive. The problem is the growth. All this money being flooded in to upgrade facilities every year just costs us more to ski. I don't need a gondola connecting squaw and alpine... I don't need a 10 story 4 seasons waterpark hotel at squaw. none of that shit is stuff I'd care about anyway.

Squaw already has 5 star hotels man... We don't need more/bigger just to keep up with Northstar's moneygrubbing off the bay area techie who still thinks snowboarding is the cool thing to do. Promote the skiing. Not the pish posh.

Vail is pissing me off now. I just switched my summit county vacation to copper and loveland from breck and keystone. I wanna help the small businesses out and I am not paying $140 for lift tickets to wait in line with thousands of epic pass holders.

I've never been to whistler but I'm interested to see what change the ski patrol will bring. I'm mainly just sick of them being at every catwalk and intersection telling us to slow down when we're the ones in control and there's people on the runs who shouldn't be skiing them.
