People here in Austria are complaining that single day tickets are now 50 euros, up from 46. When I tell them about prices in North America they honestly think I am lying.

Probably have to do it to push people out of Vail and to the other resorts. Too many people are chosing Vail if they are faced with 95 bucks for Beaver Creek or 120 for Vail they have to make Vail 160 to get people to stay away.
If I was a really shitty intermediate from the midwest I'd love Vail you can ski anywhere there if you are a gaper since its so flat and beginner friendly. I completely understand Vail's popularity.

Mind, they live in gated communities, go to private, school, and smell and look like money but its fucking insane. It's simple marketing that all ski resorts do: the more day passes you buy in advance the cheaper they become. Of course the clincher is that the longer you're there the more you spend on lodging, food, etc etc 
that's also why season passes have been getting cheaper. more people at the mountain is always a good thing because there's a better chance you'll buy food n shit. plus with social media it's free advertising cause without pictures to immediately show your friends you aren't actually there.

While $159 is obviously crazy high, that is only the ticket window price. If you plan ahead and buy online, it doesn't cost that much (but still a lot). An Aspen spokesman had a good comment on these high window prices:
"You don't buy an airline ticket the day you fly"
While comparing a plane ticket and lift ticket is a bit of a stretch, he makes a good point. You generally know in advance when you are going to go skiing, especially during the holidays when people are there for vacation and locals probably have some type of season pass. Just plan ahead and don't buy your ticket at the ticket window and you won't have to pay their stupid high price.

I wish more places raised their prices (like Stevens Pass...should be $100). Keeps crowds down, kicks all the people who bitch about prices out, and allows them to invest that money in more terrain/chairs.

nobody feels like they should pay full price for a day ticket. this mindset is fascinating to me...do they barter at the grocery store? with their realtor? how about at the BMW dealer? i'm gonna guess no. but, when it's the weekend at the ski hill, now is the time to complain about prices. it's just really strange to me.

so i get that the single day pass is fucked but considering the epic all access season pass is the same price as 5 days on the mountain vail is just a nice guy with a robber costume as it robs the shit out of tourists but anyone that skis at any epic resort consistently is getting the royat treatment

2 winters ago it wasn't exactly fun for a Tahoe based head like me to spend the extra couple hundred to get a full Epic pass. But I knew I'd be in Colorado and would want to ski Vail since I remembered it differently from as a kid the one single day I skiied it growing up. I was only at Vail for 3 or 4 days but not being a moron meant I could afford a nice hotel off priceline and food instead of crying about lift ticket prices. The result of not being a broke mofo was meeting a hot rich ski cougar to use the free epic pass days in the Alps with. WIN.
Mountain Collective Pass is way chiller than the Epic now the epic scummed the days in the Alps but you don't get a full season pass anywhere. 50% of Aspen tickets during holidays still sucks ass tho its no season pass. Might rock both next season if business is still good Glenwood is cheap af and is close to BC and Aspen Highlands nice hotels for under 40 bones a night.
