Vail Pass/Loveland Pass snow?

I was thinking about doing a bit of hiking around the Vail area but I'm willing to drive. We've got no snow around here and was looking for a good place to get a short hike and some "OK" first season turns in. I don't have my pass yet though, so any resort is out of the question.
Anyone know of anything?

I don't know about that, I looked pretty skim to me. I would expect to hit an abundance of rocks. There is still a lots of stuff pocking through and plenty of near bare patches. I would wait until next weekend after this mini-storm at the earliest. I have seen people doing it, but I'm just not sure that your skis will survive unless you navigate the drift areas with skill and avoid everywhere else.

you would definitely be able to get some tracks on loveland but i went to berthoud pass yesterday and they have a pretty solid snow pack pretty much all over. i just hiked the right side of the very top and it was great i would say that that would be your best bet
