Vail- Most pisted ski runs in the world?

September 27, 2005, From World Snow News--In a new brochure, Vail Ski Area in Colorado is claiming that it contains more pisted runs than any other ski area in the world. It is currently unclear whether the claim refers to the length of piste, the area of piste or possibly to the amount of terrain groomed each night.

Whistler Blackcomb in Canada has a larger ski area and dozens of European ski regions appear to have more ski pistes than Vail, but comparison is difficult as Europe's areas measure ski runs by their length, North American by area.

Vail Resort is entering "phase two of its grooming initiative" which means it will manicure thirty percent more terrain each night. It is adding nine new grooming machines for this winter in order to achieve this ambitious target. On average the resort will groom 1,300 to 1,600 acres oper night--a larger area than most U.S. ski resorts offer in total.

Kinda strange eh that they would say something like that, you would think they would be able to prove it, i think thats bad marketing

1,300-1,600 hectres is an insane amount of grooming, problem is that it should be quaility over quanitity, really bad move, although the average skier/snowboarder loves to see that kinda stuff 'the most" "Biggest" even though its not true

^ im guessing the majority of the people, and all the ones that pour money into this industry so you can have a groomed park

you'd be suprised as to how many people still love carvin' on the groomed.

like, anyone over 30. (ok, that was a stereotype, and i'm sorry).

my mom doesn't like skiing in the trees. she's a better carver than me (and she blew her knee out when she was 49 - and she's just as good as before the knee injury). i don't know why i said that, just saying that a lot of people love groomers and that's all they ride... (now that being said, my mom lives in ontario...)

man, i'm leaving myself open to insult when i say my mom is better at skiing than me... hehehe, whatever, i can ski better switch than you can regular.

Vail is gay.

Anybody who has skied in Whistler, Jackson, or Europe can tell you that. What an overrated hill.

They can claim whatever they want, the barneys that believe that shit belong there anyway.

vail is not gay. vail has a huge and long park and basically shaped the sport and culture that defines skiing today.

i have never been to vail or whistler but my guess would be vail aitn' the biggest. there has to be some place bigger. Out in Europe or something.

Man you must suck at skiing if a woman over 50 with a knee surgery in her bag skis better than you. And yo if mom can beat you going forward, you are probably horrible at going backwards. Maybe you should stick to something a little easier like snowboarding. And while it is cute that you reference your mom and think so great of her that you say she is a better skier than you, but seriously you are probably a teenager and getting dominated on the slopes by a person approaching retirement age is pretty sad and funny at the same time.

Either way at least you had the balls to say you suck, most people in this forum, just talk themselves up, and then they mention they ski in the midwest, which as we all know is the gnar

^Hey ive seen 50 year old mom ex racers who could carve better than most of the kids on this site, maybe his mom can ski better than you

As someone said, we measure the length of the slopes in Europe instead of total area of the slopes.

The largest skiarea in Europe (the world?) is Les 3 valeés(Val Thorens, Courchevel, Meribel and more) in France. The area has 600+ km of pistes http://www.valthorens.com/hiver.asp?link=3vallees

Though the the biggest combined skinetwork accesible by one skipass is Dolomiti superski in Italy. Here you have access to 1220km of pistes.

Can someone get any figures of the length of the pistes in Vail, it would be fun to

see which one is the biggest skiresort in terms of piste length.
