VAIL SUCKS. Carinthia is putting in less rails every year and hasn’t done inferno or the pipe for 2+ years. Anyone know if they are gonna start to put in more shit or is this how it’s gonna be forever? They did get some new metal this year though?

That and the conditions have been utter garbage for the past like 5 years. One weekend in February last season I went up there and they had to close nitro to blow snow. Sad times.

Carinthia used to be the sickest. Bummer to hear.

dude yeah. nitro was super fun and long but kinda small features often

inferno was dope but usually empty

GULCH was the sickest, and usually pretty open cause most people flock to nitro

Yeah getting nearly first tracks end of day on inferno. Prospector was so sicl. Gulch always good. I didn't hit nitro as much on the weekends but always cool. I liked just being able to try a trick on a down bar and then after 4 laps feeling dialed from all the rails.

yeah man and carinthia in general was just such a scene, i'd bump into friends or make new ones literally every time i was there and sick ams were always around

They’ve done it to every mountain they’ve taken over. They can sell more tickets if they rip out the parks and make ‘em a green trail on the map.

Big Boulder would have entered the chat but they massacred that place. Used to be heaven for an east coast park rat

Sad i never made it to may day. Never could get friends that wanted to go and was pretty far. We would drive to mt snow and set up rails till the end up june some years though. Also the mini ramp pre new lodge was fun.

Bb seemed like a crazy spot as well. RIP

May Day was like fuckin Woodstock for park rats. Literally, the first half of the run had zero snow cuz it was 65 degrees, just a muddy river for about 100 yards and then onto the snow. Nobody wanted to walk it, so we all just skied thru the mud. The first kid on the first chair that day tried it (after we egged him on) and tumbled real bad. Had to go to the hospital. Great start to a great day lmao

Happening to every park that is getting bought up by them on the east coast unfortunately. They truly dont give a fuck.

I'm willing to bet insurance premiums and liability costs have skyrocketed since COVID which also has something to do with it. Less parks = less people getting hurt (which means less lawsuits.)

RIP BIG BOULDER PARK and fuck big boulder mountain

This is all fax..runs are too long and have been pretty boring. IMO nitro is overrated. I'd always hit the upper few rail pads, hit tunnel vision to prospector and then lap through the farm. Fools gold terrain is prime as it's kinda twisty and turny. Nitro is just a massive cleared trail that you can practically see top the bottom of the lift aside from the farms headwall

WAIT. YOU MEAN TO TELL ME VAIL IS PURPOSELY KILLING OFF THEIR PARKS BECAUSE ITS NOT PROFITABLE ENOUGH?!!?!

I always wondered why the parks have severely decreased in quality and in some cases strait up disappeared at BRECKENRIDGE, PARK CITY, SUNAPEE, VAIL, KEYSTONE, WHISTLER, ROUNDTOP, LIBERTY, OKEMO, MOUNT SNOW and CROTCHED have all gone to shit in the past few years. Wow, thanks for sharing this surprising and not expected at all.

Seven Springs, are you paying attention? You’re next on the Vail hit list.

I dunno if you've been to bmbw anytime recently but it's gotten so bad that I don't even ski there anymore despite living 5 min away

Get a different pass then. I doubt there will be any large overhaul to its former glory unfortunately. Things might get slightly better or stagnate at best.

Facts dude. And wtf was with all the god damn stall features last year? Every other feature… My friend pointed it out to me and now I can’t unsee it lmao

My homie runs the terrain park at a small tow rope hill in Maine called ski spruce. He can build whatever he wants. Lift tickets are like 20 bucks or something. All the place needs is more bodies to help maintain and build the park scene. You guys should come shred

They took away Whis park completely, then took away the terrain garden on blackcomb, then reintroduced Whis with the features from that. So sneaky

There's a few features in Whis now but it's a shell of what it was even 5 years ago

This is not new or news. You all knew this was coming

Also that Carinthia park set up was way to big to begin with. 2 park trails there is more then enough. That terrain is much better for intermediate skiers and that new lodge. That brings in money.

With one of the largest early season parks in Vermont and 22” forecasted for Saturday along with 12” at the end of next week I’m hopeful for this season

From what I’ve seen carinthia has actually invested more in the park this year than previous years (previous as in the past like 3 or 4). Chris dejon was posting some new features and for the amount of snow they’ve been building some pretty good stuff. Someone in another thread said they noticed some historic vail parks firing lately and that management may have actually started to re-invest in their park again which is dope. I am hopeful tbh, the future is bright as long as the weather permits it

I will say the gulch setup looks pretty fun/unique. think what I've noticed is how later in the season things start to go stale and features don't get changed out. I'm pretty sure the gulch only got like one update in years past. Nitro always just has short rails and the booters. I've mentioned it before, upper fools gold has the perfect grade for chill rail laps but they refuse to actually put features up. Super mellow and flowy.

I wish they would follow in the steps of killington or bush and actually make flowy interesting parks

Carinthia wasn’t too bad last weekend. They don’t have a lot of snow. My only complaint was the metal rails were dangerously sticky lol

Temp change = sticky rails, and VT will go from 10 degrees to 60 like every other day

That makes sense. I was this close (?) to buying a can of Pam and spraying them bad boys down.

damn they haven't done inferno? i remember thinking they had a pretty cool park there when i was a kid but it's been a while. at least that trail always stuck out in my memory ? was that the XL features park?

I see all this VAIL IS KILLING PARKS but then Stowe's over there with the first early season hike park they've had in a decade (granted it's tiny). What gives?

Just get some silicone spray if you're gonna spray them

Ngl I only said Pam because I seen Carinthias park crew do it all last year and it worked like a charm. I honestly didn’t follow thru cuz I didn’t wanna piss off any of the old heads that might not like super slick rails. I’ve done that before when skateboarding and felt like a twat lol.

Jesus. Thats weird for park crew honestly. They usually should have shit in stock of they're gonna spray anything. Personally I'm a believe in doing proper rail refab and then letting it ride. If you get that shit glassy it should slide like butter, no need to spray anything. If a fatter rail like a tower tube os sticky just chuck some snow on it and ride it. Usually being dry is the only issue.

Some stuff people spray or rub on rails has residue issues. If it's a summer vibe it can collect dust the way skate wax does. Sometimes people spray something to make it more slick then that actual thing makes it sticky eventually so they have to add more. Imo leaving it clean is generally best. Some mountains use pearl wax on they're tower tubes. A lot of places have silicone spray on hand for boxes or whatever but rarely see it used.

Yeah today the two fat tubes were so sticky I couldn’t 2 on and swaps were super sketchy

Ok word so it wasn’t just me.. I thought I was just being picky since this group of 11 year olds were ripping 450 offs no problemo ??

Loosely related but buddy of mine texted me a picture of a pay your age day ticket from April 09. Last pay your age of a classic season. First year Carinthia. Moghr have been when they had the mini pipe on mineshaft. Inferno jumps were lit, everything was stacked.

Skate ramp sesh on the deck after. Classic

RIP

FUCK VAIL
