Fuck Vail. Your thoughts?
14026957:wasatch_rat said:Fuck Vail. They should build a parking garage that you have to pay for but leave the regular parking free. It's insane to think you will now have to pay for PC's already abysmal parking situation

I really hope that isn't in the plans

Was it Vail that truly were the dicks or was it just a matter of time it was gonna be a pay for lot and they were the dick that did it first?
Cause you know, every destination ski resort is going to this in the next couple decades because they are trying to profit.

14027560:DeebieSkeebies said:More park and ride lots, especially ones like out at Ecker Hill need to be built. Better bus routes because the bus system in PC was a massive hit this year, something like 60k passengers alone in the month of march. Thats huge for a small town like that.
Its shitty, but complaining doesnt do a whole lot. People forget this isnt a city owned by Vail Resorts, They have an actual local government that really doesnt do shit, doesnt' get pressed enough by the locals, and its time for people in the area to start raising a bit more hell and have their government start representing them for once.

LOL

Coming from someone who you'd never see at a town hall meeting, any event for local business workshops and has most likely never seriously communicated with someone at town hall. LOL

14029108:TommyT said:SMH. Like Park City is the resort to go to in Utah or something. Maybe its in your better interest to convince them to stop closing down the whole mountain at 1pm due to 2 MPH winds. Lol.
14027477:pinkcamo1000 said:why are people downvoting this? I definitely agree. Most big ski resorts, especially those owned by vail, are catering to a richer and richer demographic to increase profits. They don't want local park kids who never buy anything at the lodge and never rent a condo at their mountain, they want tourists who will come for 5 days, spend a shitload of money, and then leave.
14029112:TommyT said:IDK, maybe it's because its an ASSHOLEish thing to say to people in general. Says a lot about your character.
14027653:camstain said:I used to work for vail and I can tell you they're just being dicks. It's one thing trying to maximize profits but it's another cutting out the locals who have been supporting the mountain for years. Not even just the locals but people who visit PC yearly are scratching their heads and thinking 'what the fuck happened to this place'. You should see the quickbooks, they're pricing things so outrageously that they end up losing money in certain areas. An example would be the town lift in the summer. You used to be able to get a ticket to go up it once for like $15 or something like that. They changed it to a day pass to use the lift for like $60 or something outrageous. Nobody wants to ride that thing more than once, let alone for $60 especially if you have a big group/family. They lost about $150,000 in one summer just by the sheer amount of people who turned away when they saw the price. Just look at the amount of people going to Little & Big cottonwood over previous years. Solitude used to be empty and now it's a shit show every weekend, people are seeing the alternative.
14029115:pinkcamo1000 said:Seemed like buddy was calling out PC for targeting a hyper wealthy demographic and making skiing even more unaffordable. Why is that an assholeish thing to say?
14029123:B.Gillis said:You sound butthurt as fuck lol ... it was a statement pointing out the truth. I constantly see people bitch about Vail owned resorts. Take a look at any one of those resorts and the business model they follow. They don’t want you if you can’t pay up. They don’t want you if you won’t pay up. These resorts have been systematically weeding out the lower income crowds for years now. Assholeish thing to say? Nah, just the truth.
14029131:B.Gillis said:No, it isn’t a good thing. Snow is melting away faster than ever. Less folks are getting into the sport and overall prices are going way way up. Small resorts still exist that people can go to on the cheap but they’re becoming harder to find. The saddest part is 80% of skiers don’t care. They only ski one week a year and they gladly shell out the money for these high end luxury experiences.
14029167:dmoney13 said:Lol Midwest gang doesn’t have to deal with this shit we complain about 50$ lift tickets. But most places are mom and pop and they support the locals more than anything.

14029183:pinkcamo1000 said:I would love to see a mass exodus of park skiers from corporate mega resorts to small local hills. Tbh small places are way more likely to value us as customers and members of the community

14029296:Dlonetti said:On the real tho, midwest is where its at. Plenty of small resorts with good vibes and good parks
14029423:Young_patty said:Trollhaugen's $100 college student season pass truly is the best value in skiing. $100 to ski dope rails all season > paying $100 to ski for a day out west
14029904:B.Gillis said:Too long to quote your whole post but I agree with you on the need for a great shuttle system but I feel like that area is too spread out for a reliable system. Mammoth is one of the only places where a shuttle system works due to the small town layout and single resort system. We have a local shuttle system out here in North Lake Tahoe but it’s garbabe and unreliable so people don’t use it like you see in Mammoth.
14029375:SkiBum. said:It’s better then Cumming who was gonna just close the place.
14029977:SofaKingSick said:what??
14030001:SkiBum. said:In about year 2 of the PCMR/Vail lawsuit Ian Comming (owner of Powdr) said that he would just keep his 250 acres of owned land at the base and sell off all assets on the disputed land (lifts, snowmaking assets).
The lawsuit was over about 250 acres of land at the base. Vail already had leasing right for the upper roughly 2500 acres. But had no access to it. So the lawsuit was over the base area which Powdr/comming owned. No one wanted to budge. Hardball was played and that resulted in the “fuck it I’m taking down all my shit and going home”. Have fun with that land and no access and no assets. Town did not like that. People were pissed. It was a hard bluff, but more serious then people realized.
About 6 months later the buyout was finalized and for a minor $175m give or take Vail had their base and all assets stayed and the ski area is what it is today.
14030060:B.Gillis said:Fair enough, then no one should be bitching about parking with an option like that available.
14030100:SkiBum. said:I agree. But everyone thinks they are entitled to drive their car alone and park in the front every day they ski. The public transit does not get used to the level it should. I’m an offender hands down.
The transit and bus schedules are great. You can park in 5+ outside lots and get the bus free in. I think if parking gets to $20 a day we will see many more locals actually use the bus system. The only downfall are the busses will sit in the same traffic as others. No designated bus lanes.
14029840:Tnski said:I'm not from around there but covered or parking garages would have its benefits. They wouldn't need to plow so you could poach a few nights car camping.
But a resort by were i live was bought by Vail and noticed they dont offer a cheap midweek pass anymore. Imagine the ski bums will be getting the squeeze next.
