so looks like ill be skiing a couple of days this winter in the vail area. and im looking for a good place to winter camp. any suggestions?

it is not illegal to camp/pitch a tent in any Walmart parking lot

there is a walmart about 5 miles west of vail and always has non filled spots to camp in

thats real cheap lodging

Its ten miles west or vail in a town called Avon. You could put a tent there. If you are going to camp with a tent just camp on Vail Pass, get the real camping experiance.

get off at the east vail exit drive back (left/east) on big horn road as far as you can, about to the bridge where i-70 goes over it. they stop plowing there, you can park and walk on up the unplowed road about 10 minutes and on your left you'lll see a trail that goes into the woods, and there's a campsite there.

sounds like you have never been winter camping before. tents are far warmer than cars in all conditions. the main one being in a tent you dont have 3500 pounds of cold metal and plastic surrounding you.

but sounds like vail pass is the way to go, im doing this trip on the cheap, so if its national forest, im set.
