Im heading out there over christmas and looking at their webcams, it does not look pretty, theyve barely got any snow, when did they get their first big dump last season?

if i remember correctly back around the 13 or 14 of october they got about a foot. its been pretty dry since then

Ya actually I work for snowmaking at Vail. So far they are definitely going to open on the 16th, but they will only have Born Free, Sky way terrain park and maybe a few runs by golden peak open. Temps have been uncooperative (25-29 at night/50-60 day) and because of this we are just able to make snow at a faster rate than we loose it. There will def be a solid snow pack once when they open on the 16th though. No worries, Vails gonna be sick this year.

last season they didint really get golden peak up until lateeeee in the season, do you know if there will be plans to open up the big park earlier this season?

I would think that they need snow for this- they have to have enough snow to be able to use the snowmaking equipment to blow the jumps. I wouldn't expect it to be open by Christmas.

We have had a high pressure system hanging over us for the better part of a month. This is a La Nina year, and there is a good chance that by the end of the season it will be average. In order for it to snow a lot in Colorado the Pacific Ocean needs to cool a little more so that so big storm cycles can churn out. It may take another month, but there is a good chance that when it goes off it will DUMP. There is a chance for snow this Sunday/Monday, so hopefully that system will just be strong enough to disturb the ridge of high pressure and shift the jetstream to Colorado. If not this one, than the next system.

Trust me, this year has been tough for us out here too, and hopefully it will start to snow in the next couple weeks and then continue to dump when you are out here.

Yep, They have been blowing snow over on the half pipe. It should be open early Dec. I wouldn't have your heart set on the park opening early. The mountains main focus is to open up born free.

The park will be open by christmas for sure, if thats what you are getting at. The park probably won't be open in november.

same score for the beav then? i'll be solo at one or the other on black friday (the day after thanksgiving) if anyone wants to meet up and rip some manmade.

Why use a Vail day the day after T-day???? Why not wait for good snow and more stuff to be open?

mainly because i'll be coming back from glenwood springs so BC and Vail will be a closer drive, plus i have copper and aspen 4packs which means the chance of me using all 10 of my vail days is pretty slim this season unfortunately. but as usual you make a valid point. hopefully it will have dumped like 19 feet by then and i'll have a better reason to use one of my 10.

by christmas it will be storming all the time and remember some of the epic years have started out like this so it will be a big year i am thinking
