hey im a highschool junior and I just got something in the mail from the university of vermont...is it a good school, and whats the skiing/partying like there? if anyone here goes there let me know..thanks

does it make sense to ask if it's a good school if you're only concerned about the skiing and partying?

The sandwiches are all here....

skiing: stowe is an about hour away, smugglers notch is a little less, sugarbush a little over an hour, jay is a couple hours away but worth the drive for pow. its the east so theres no guarantee on conditions anywhere.

haha actually i asked if it 'was a good school' and then asked about the other options...I happen to get a 4.0 at the best school in Cleveland taking a really hard course regimine..so I really wouldn't judge other people from the internet...I work hard at school but I also like to ski and have fun on the weekends..sorry

go to uc davis. kirkwood is 2 hours away, squaw and alpine are under two hours and sugar bowl is an hour and a half. plus on top of that it's a pretty damn good school. i guess it's more expensive for out of state people, but hell, you might be able to get a scholarship if you have good grades and test scores, they gave me six grand for my first year there, then realized i was skiing the whole time and didn't give me anymore. but i still got six grand out of 'em. dumb bastards.

hey kwood thats a really good idea...I know I came off as cocky in my last post..sorry..but yea a good school is important to me..but I'd also like to ski too..man that sounds so tempting to go to cali

my friend is goin there, stowe is the close mountain, its a better school than its rep says and the partying is good. if you dont care about the school/location and yu just want good skiing/partying then go to CU boulder, top 5 in the party schools and vail, breck and aspen plus more

smuggs and stowe about 45min/hour away as nate said. lotsa rails all over campus and town for urban jibbing. groovy UV has a good size party scene. known in the area as a praty school. but it is also known to be a good school. it gets slack by people saying you only need to pull a C average to get in...but it IS a good school. definetly worth checking out.

killington is like an hour away the place is huge, the park sucked this year its sounds like it will be good next year.

you should also check out university of nevada at reno if you want something close to skiing, I have no idea how good a school it is, but decent location. plus it's getting to be a bitch to get into UCs without almost perfect scores and all, especially for out of state so you might just wanna throw applications at every school somewhat near the snow.

everyone always says that their park is going to kick ass...and killington always blows. no. that is not true. i am truly sorry.

Killington's park is pretty weak for a mountain of it's size/reputation, etc.

What the fuck are you talking about?!! CU is one of the best public universities in the nation, way better than UVM or a hell of a lot of other schools. It's engineering and science departments are in the top 4 of public universities in the US, and it has two nobel winning professors in physics. (They produced the bose-einstein condensate.) I'd go there except I want to get the hell out of Colorado.

We have an old saying down on the bayou....Blehhhhh!!!

UVM is a decent school as far as public universities go. It's no UVA (virginia) but its not that bad. It's not 'good' though, but good is a relative term which is different for everyone. If you want a 'good' (again, relative and different for everyone) school in Vermont, look at Middlebury. It's completely different than UVM. Small, liberal arts. But the education you get rivals an Ivy League education, and Middlebury carries serious chache in the job search after college. It's also extremely hard to get into, seeing as it's one of the top 5 liberal arts colleges in the nation, and has an acceptance rating under 25%, where as UVM has an acceptance rating around 75%. Keep in mind the applicant pool at a place like Middlebury is also pretty strong, 1400 SATs, sick grades, etc etc.

But for some UVM is a great school if that's what you're looking for. Basically, college is what you make of it. You can get an education at UVM that's just as good as many other places. It's just whether you try to get a good education out of it, or you want to ski and party.

middlebury is awesome. exactly what the gene guy said. 1200 to 1400 on SATs and super stellar marks in school. check out amherst college.

Yea the UC's are tough to get into, but davis is a hell of a lot easier to get into that berkelyk, I think the sat range for davis is 1100-1300 ish. So that's not too difficult. Scholarships are hard to come by. You really need to be involved in extracurriculars and have a good share of community service. And from Davis, you aren't going to be offered one, you're going to have to apply for a bunch of different scholarships, and a lot of those have an average range of 2gs if you're lucky. Being from out of state makes it harder to get into that school. Davis has a lot of kids that are insanely smart, but didn't care enough in highschool to get 4.0's so they didn't get into berkely.

and also for the not so smart kids it makes it a hell of a lot easier to get into a uc school by doing community college first you have like a 75 percent more of a chance

a follow up on MC's note...aside from amherst, if you're interested in that type of college, look at any NESCAC school (new england small college athletic association). Bates, Colby, Bowdoin (all in Maine), Tufts, Amherst (both in mass.), Connecticut College, Wesleyan Univ, Trinity College (connecticut), Middlebury (VT), Hamilton College (NY.) .

They have been referred to as the little IVYs, as the educations you recieve are comparable, they are just smaller schools with a liberal arts education.

dude fuck middlebury....UVM would be a way better choice. i know people w/ perfect SAT's that got turned down there. UVM's a good balance between good school, good skiing, awesome town and good parties....also check out MSU-Bozeman, less than an hour from Big Sky, 20 min from Bridger

...

groovy uv...groovy uv......groovy uv....

Does anyone know anything about Champlain college? It seems like a fairly good school, but i want to know how close it is to all the ski resorts and what kind of people go there.

Damn straight things are happenin' in the midwest!

Markers don't suck!

oh yeah, its in Burlington, if that helps location wise.

as far as champlain location, UVM is in Burlington too so just look at the top of this thread about ski resort distances to UVM....they'll be the same.

...

word. bozeman is definatly a phatass college town, and the skiing nearby is dope. there is cool shit to do outside of ski season too if you're into rafting, camping, flyfishing, shit like that
