Just bought a HV40 tonight and i am super pumped, cant wait to start making some legit stuff. So i am new to all the lenses and such, so if you could talk to me real stupid about UV lenses and Wide angles. I want to get a wide angle, but not super distorted, one that can capture a skier without bending him. Also what is this talk of UV lenses? I searchbarred and read in some other forums, but it was all too complicated. Thanks in advance!

basically uv filters just protect the lens in your camera. its recomended that you put one on right when you get the camera and and never take it off. its cheaper to replace a scratch uv filter than the lens in your camera.

im in the same shoes as the thread creator...
whats a good size for fish eye (ski follow cams)??? for example would 44mm be legit???
what are some solid brands to look for when buying lens ???
and what the general cost for a solid fish eye for a canon hv30 or 40???

im not an expert but.....

you pick the size based on your cam. That way it will fit the threads around the lens.

one well like brand for lenses is raynox. A Raynox wide angle could run you a bit over $100.

I have this wide angle for my hv30 and its really nice. $140 on amazon.

youll need a step up ring but thats no big deal. my only complaint is at 0.66x it could be a little wider for some of the close follow cams.
