Well, as a senior looking for colleges, I came across this university and had a few questions to those who go there.

How far is it from the slopes,I saw it was past sandy and didnt look like too bad of a drive.

Are they known for anything in particular. Academic or sports wise?

and last but not least. Is it a good university?

UVU sucks compared to the U if you are thinking about coming here to go to school and ski a lot. There's no reason why you would go there over the U of Utah.

UVU is basically a smaller BYU. I dont know what the party scene is like down there cuz i dont go there. but knowing mormons down there i wouldnt think they party like U of U students do. but its all up to you if you party or not. the U of U has a good party scene, imo. but its way past sandy. its probably 30-45 mins away from SLC. if you want to drive to go skiing, you'll have to drive a good long time, especially if your gunna get a pass to pc. i wouldnt go there if your planning on skiing...

Ya if you plan on skiing a lot don't go to UVU. I'd estimate it'd take you at least an 1hr 15 to get to any good skiing but I do know people who do it.. The school gets overlooked because the U and BYU are much better schools in all aspects and pretty close as well. I wouldn't say it's a bad school but the whole Orem/Provo vibe isn't the same as SLC.

Unlike the 3 posters above me, i actually do go to UVU, i commute 2 days a week from cottonwood heights and its not bad at all... takes me about 40 minutes and i just do all my classes on tuesdays/thursdays and have the remaining time to do whatever i want, whether its ski, work, bang chicks, etc... Its a good school for what i'm studying, (digital media) and IMO has a way better arts department then the U of U...
If skiing is important to you and you do decided to go to UVU i would not live in the Orem/Provo area, get a place in Sandy or Draper and commute to UVU (from sandy or draper would be 30 minutes or less) and then you can still easily get to good skiing as well... the U of U is a good school too, but don't choose your school based on how close to the slopes it is..

I go to uvu and its not bad. stack your schedule at night, you can still ski everyday. its only 45 mins or so to the pc resorts and about an hour or so to the cottonwoods. Sundance is 15 mins away, small and no park, but pretty dope on a powder day. Decent school, definitely not a lot going on around campus though.

I just graduated from UVU, and I had a great experience. Skiing-wise, you're definitely better off at the U, but it's still not too far away. PC resorts are 45 min. - 1 hr. Cottonwood resorts are about the same depending on how close you live to I-15. Sundance is small, but it's only a 15 min. drive, and a weekday or night-skiing pass is around $150. They had 5-6 mini jibs up this year, so they might expand the park in the future.
Academically, UVU is known for its nursing and pre-dental programs. It also has a highly accredited aviation program. Sports.. they don't have a football team yet, but they have a decent basketball team (Ronny Price on the Jazz played at UVU).
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help guys. I have not looked at prices yet, but if its cheaper than the U im really considering it there.

i go to uvu. its a good place. i didnt really go though. but its not a bad commute to the slopes 45 minutes to pc and the cottonwoods. and only 15 minutes to sundance.
