I know that Utah has better snow, but does which has the better terrain. I have only skied Colorado and would like to know for future trips
 
you wont be let down with utah and i can guarantee there is more than enough challenging terrain for you.

if you want to see more of the terrain just go to the photos section and search for solitude, alta, snowbird, snowbasin, utah, etc. or PM me and I can send you a shitload.
 
Colorado not only has more terrian but overall it is much better. Think about it Utah has one small mountain range, whereas, Colorado has the whole goddamn rocky mountains, which includes about 15-20 "wasatch ranges."

The only bad part about colorado is that the resorts are spread out all across the state and in utah you can be at just about any resort within an hour drive of SLC. The terrian to be found in colorado is amazing, utah's is only a small fraction of what can be found in Colorado.
 
haha because colorado has more mountains doesnt mean shit.

half of them get less than 300 inches a year.i know theres a few that get in the 400's, and even wolf creek gets 500, but come on now, the majority get as much as the east coast. Jay Peak actually gets rated better snow than every colorado resort except snowmass.

i hear crested butte has crazy terrain and vail is also unique, but snow isnt reliable. yes i know they got pounded this year, but look at previous years. Alta and Snowbird also get higher rated terrain than any resort in Colorado

out of the 5 times ive been to utah 4 times ive got waist deep days. 5 out of 5 times ive got knee deep days.

In colorado you can't access 7+ world class resort within 45mintues. I know people are going to say mormons are a big deal, but thats bullshit. 3.2% beer tastes the same as regular as well. If you want to drive 7 hours each way to access different resorts in colorado be my guest.

Colorado doesnt appeal to me, but it may to other people. Just my opinion, but I've also never been to Colorad, so I am a bit biased

I'm from Colorado, and it really depends on what kind of terrain you want.

Each mountain has it's own style. It really just depends what you like to ski.
 
ive skied canyons, deer valley, park city, and then in colorado beaver creek. im from east coast and personally the difficulty was higher in utah but then again i skied a rich resort like beaver creek. i wish i couldve gone to a harder resort. i didnt ski snowbird or better utah resorts like cottonwood canyon but the terrain seemed harder in utah. but u can find difficulty shit in both.
 
places like C.Butte and ASpen are tech, but I am from Colorado and will say that Alta/Snowbird are fucking sweet and can contend with Ajax, To hell uride, and the Vails back bowls. Pretty much a cats game for me.
 
1. Please never compare any EC snow to CO again.

2. I'll admit that UT has better terrain close to the city, but that often only means it gets tracked out quicker. Have you ever seen Alta/Bird on a pow day? That shit gets tracked out quicker than you can imagine.

3. The fact that CO has more mountains definitely means something. It means endless possibilities of skiable lines if you have the time/drive/skill to go for them. How often do you see people skiing lines in Utah like Dav's Pyramid line recently?

Disclaimer: I'm not taking anything away from UT as it is some of the best skiing and snow in the world, but just wanted to defend CO on a few points.
 
everywhere in Colorado gets better some than Jay, even Winterpark or heldora. Its light and Coloradoish, and it happens to fall above treeline where you can rip it like JayPeakers can only dream of.
 
i live in colorado. went to utah this winter and snowbird was so amazing, best snow ive ever had. terrain is definitely so sick out there. but, the parks in colorado are insanely sick. almost every resort has a really good park. both states are different but both really good
 
in utah , u cant just take a chairlift to get untouched pow, u have to work for it sometimes, and a whole bunch of hills and rollers isnt as good as a real big mountain
 
I grew up in Park City Utah and Iam now going to college in Denver, and I can say that Utah owns colorado when it comes to terrain and snow...at least when compared to Brek, Keystone, A-basin, Bever and Vail. A-basin has some amazing terrain but colorado just does not compare to some of the stuff Snowbird and Alta have. Dont get me wrong I love skiing in colorado, the 5 mt pass almost makes it worth missing out on Snowbird but when it comes to huge powder days and awesome terrain, Utah comes out way on top.
 
PS: the dirve to colorado MT from the City sucks compared to the drive in Utah...after living 15min away from the resort and then having to drive over 1.5 hours I somtimes wonder why I even left Utah.
 
this is the tough part about CO, D-town is way too far, takes a lot of weed to get to the hill everyday.
 
I think you misunderstood.

1. East Coast snow in general is no where near as good as CO snow. No doubt, but when it comes down to total Jay Peak owns most CO resorts.

2. Yes I have been to Alta/Bird on a pow day, but I would never go back to Snowbird on a pow day if I had the choice. Alta was not rediculously bad(like snowbird) even on the weekend. I was still getting freshies without working that hard well into 3. Have you ever been to Solitude, Powder Moutain, or Snowbasin 3 days after a pow day? Next time your out I will guarantee you will get freshies at Solitude and Pow Mow a week after a storm. Snowbasin gets tracked out a little quicker.

3.The kid said Colorado has better terrain because theres more mountains. No doubt theres a bigger variety, but more terrain doesnt not mean better. Kind of a quality vs. quantity type thing.

Maybe I didn't clarify what I was trying to say. Like I said I have a bias and have never been to CO. I'm sure CO is great, but I love Utah. :)
 
also your comment is complete bullshit!

falling above the treeline has nothing to do with how light or heavy snow is.

treeline has to do with latitude and/or longitude.

for instance at ~6000-7000 ft at Crystal Mountain, Washington it is well above the treeline and at Alta Utah you are not above the treeline at 10000ft, yet Alta gets much drier snow.

also i have skied snow at Jay Peak that was damn near Utah quality. dont even talk about Jay if you havent skied there. jay peak snow is as good, if not better than most places out west.

Jaypeakers dont need to dream of quality snow, they already have it.
 
not really dogging Jay, just saying that the Colorado Rockies are sick, not to be compared to VT.
 
no doubt, i misread what you were saying. i thought you were trying to say that since jay isnt above the treeline it doesnt get quality snow vs. colrado which is above the treeline and does get quality snow.

my bad.
 
utah gets more snow and shitty beer. And all the resorts are REALLY close to you in SLC. i'd say it depends on the person.
