Using plexiglass on a box

Hey, i was wondering if plexiglass is ok to use on a box setup cause on other threads i saw that people said that it tends to shatter in the colder weather, and due to Vermont winters, i was wondering if there is any truth to that.
 
i covered my boxes with some plexiglass, they spent winter outside( i live in quebec) and so far no cracks, but a bit of ondulation when snow melted and water went between the box and the plexiglass which then froze again, gettin bigger.

but nothing a few screws couldnt fix.
 
dont use plexiglass, use polyurethane, its technically made of Nylon, so it wont crack I used that on my urban ramp and it works pretty good.
 
Well ya I know, but it slides well is my point, and im almost positive that its the same plastic that is used on the tops of boxes. As far as the urban ramp its fuckin sick, you dont need any snow or anything on it and its slicker than any other surface.
 
yeah, it wont work for that long. if you have to use it, make sure its really reinforced and sturdy, otherwise you will crack it after using it a handful of times. and thats a bummer
 
Ya thats right im posting on my own thread but this is to ask a simple question. How is that liquid nails stuff to use as that applier of the coversheet. I've heard both good and bad so i was just wondering
 
naa dont use that if your gunna hit it alot and do spins on to it and disasters use HDPE you can get it at usplastics.com
 
Works perfectly, thats what I used on my boxes. Just be sure to put another board on top the top sheet when you clamp it to the box, so it has pressure on the entire glued surface. And let the glue set for at least a day or two before using them.
 
If your using HDPE, liquid nails WILL NOT work. use screws and counter sink it.

No, it WILL work. I have done it. using 1/4 inch HDPE. Countersinking was going to be impossible on that thin of material, so I used it. And it works great.
 
I have never slid it myself, but it feels the same as hdpe to the touch. So my guess is it slides the same. We have a table top made out of it at my shop and every time I see it I want to jib it.
 
Well Me and My friends used The Slippery Stuff From A shower And It works good. But It's Really Thin......... so When we tried to hold it to the wood we didn't know what to use because it's too thin to countersink screws so we had to nail it in and the melt the plastic over top of the nails. But The catch on your skis. So I guess what I'm asking is

WHERE DO YOU FIND LIQUID NAILS OR ANOTHER TYPE OF GLUE THAT WIL HOLD GOOD?
 
not the best idea, use lexan or like heavy plastic, but you will destroy plexiglass like first hit when its cold and like second when its warm
 
i got a bunch of plexiglass for free, and just glued the shit out of it, plus countersank screws around the edge, and a few in the middle. Hasn't cracked, and even if it does, it's cheap as hell to just put a new top on. 
 
For a drop in ramp, what is the easiest and longest lasting material to put over the ramp to use, without having to use dishsoap and water ect.

Astroturf? Snowfence?
 
use wet carpet and use dishwash soap so easy and cheaper, or just go to ice rink and get some snow like we do.
 
i hear it cracks quite easily after a few hits, any questions u got with makin ur own, get urself an invite to the build a jib 101 cult
 
yep thats correct. i put a sheet on my box last yr and third hit later it shattered because of the impact. it may be cheap, but its really wimpy
