Used Surf Boards?

You know the season is pretty much over when you see this (in New Jersey).

Anyway, i don't know much about surfing, other than it's fun and I want to do it. I've surfed like three times before and i learned that I don't want a longboard. I'm like 5'5'' and like 120lbs if that matters, so i would get a board that's like 6'? What are some good brands that would hold up after being bought used, and how much would i be spending? I'm hoping i can get one around 300. Also, whats the deal with fins, like is 1 fin better than 3 or is it just preference.

Short boards are harder when you are first learning. On short boards 3 fins are pretty standard on a short board. I would get a fish board if I were you(has a swallow tail and typically 2 fins). It doesn't really matter on the company either. You should be able to get a used board for 300 also but than you need a wetsuit probably

I completely disagree with the longboards are easier for learning. Look at it as "pass/fail" learning curve. I learned on a 6'4"x20.25 and dropped down to a 6'0 by 19 in a little over a month. If I can surf a 6'0 on Lake Erie then you should be able to figure it out on an ocean. I'm also 5'10" and 165.

It really depends on how much you are in the water and how bad you want to learn.

Surfboards are anything BUT durable unless you get a kook sponge board. For a first board you could be in decent shape for under $200 if you hit the right shops.

Check this site/ store out... located in Jersey with a good selection of JS boards
