US Troops sent to Uganda

Thing is though we go in to be the world's police force everyone and their mother bitches about it. We don't do it people bitch. The world needs to make up their fucking minds.

I get this feeling it's going to become either another Black Hawk Down like situation or another Vietnam. Cause this is the way the US got involved in Vietnam... training locals.

Ha. I literally discussed this for 3 hrs today in African Politics class. US aid explicitly states that there is must be some sort of personal gain for the United States...a steady presence in Africa is a pretty key objective for any world power with the amount of unstable or authoritarian states.

So we're not being world police, we're being entrepreneurs and keeping our fingerprints on a region that has a lot of potential for future economic gain...if the aid workers can get their shit figured out. And it's not just the US that's extending its influence into Africa...China has been working a LOT with Zimbabwe recently. Not necessarily on a military level, but still.

Don't get pissy about it until you know the actual situation. which I'm sure nobody here on NS does...

Meh. Look at it like this: The whole point (at least as far as we've been informed) is to "kill or capture" the LRA leader. in my eyes, 100 soldiers, esp U.S. soldiers, is more than enough to get that job done pretty quick.

But hey shit's never that simple with our military so we'll be there for the next 10 years! :D

LOL this post should be in "you laugh, you lose"

This is like one of those classic "BRO DONT TRY TO THROW YOUR KNOWLEDGE AT ME IM IN A FRESHMAN PHILOSOPHY CLASS" posts xD

I am sorry but I don't see how 100 Special Operations troops is there to do anything other than what the Rangers and Delta Force with the SEALs and Marines did in Somalia.

Also, to whoever said 100 US troops should be enough to kill the ldr of the rebels... we thought the same thing in Somalia.

Oh please... has the US ever tried NOT to "do it"? It's easy to say everyone would bitch if they didn't. But I don't think it's true. Why would other countries bitch if you leave Uganda alone? It's not like the situation there is new - they have slaughtered eachother for several decades now without anyone giving a flying...

for that matter why didnt we invade Iran when they were protesting?

(I definitely don't think we should have, but just wondering)

What would have been the effects of U.S. involvement in Iran in 2009?

Which country have we recently gone into while large amounts of citizens were protesting?

why? Joseph Kony has been running around Africa for years without almost no resistance. Im glad someone is finally doing something about it. This guy kidnaps children, gets them addicted to heroin, and then forces them to rape and murder. This man needs to die and what better way then sending 100 (im assuming rather elite) soldiers to help get the job done.
