Think about it, Cheney controlls Haliburton K.B.R.. If no one knows what that is they should look it up, in Iraq right now they are the main suppliers of oil and distrubution. soldiers mostly have to answer to them, i know of a few cases where they contracted people from middle east to drive supply trucks supplying united states military, repeat united states military for money, into a hail of gun fire. and heard radio transmissions of people burning to death and no one helping them out, even though they were being proteected by 'us'. Now imagine, if cheney controlls haliburton how tempting it would be to attack iran? because they already dispress strong opinions against us in the U.N. and we 'belive' they are responsable for 'shadow attacks' i.e. hit and runs, otherwise known as terrorism. So guys, there is more then meets the eye here. If i get shit for saying my viewpoint you can do so. Its weird concept to think about. we pay the vice president to keep our soldiers alive. Coruption? perhaps. Its a little known fact that we wanted to controll all of the oil feils since we discoverd oil in the 1930's. Since then, OPEC has taken back to oil fields, and who controlls them can cripple the west, NATO, and many other forums adventully causing world wise deppression. so, now that i layed out both sides...i think its up to you

No fuckin' way is this going down. Bush isn't stupid enough to taint his presidency even more by invading another country and leaving it to some dem to clean up. Plus Congress would throw an absolute fit if he did, and the war would be over right quick when he didn't get funding.

That said, the Iranian president is a complete douche, but don't we have smaller forces that could deal with that???

He's right. Every developed world power has contingency plans in place in case of a war with practically every other country on the planet. I don't know how this is actually news, but I guess judging by the out-of-control opinions on this thread alone, I'm guessing most people don't know that these contingency plans exist.

They're both retired generals that currently teach espionage, government, and military history at my college. I talk to them about this kind of thing from time to time, and they essentially helped define military foreign policy over the last 7 decades. Think what you want about them from their wiki articles, they know their shit.

This is basically what Wilson has to say about the current situation:

We have these sorts of contingency plans in place, that is a fact. The tactical bombing of strategic locations within a country would be the first thing we would do in the face of inevitable aggressive action toward said country. I don't doubt we have similar plans in place for all of our non-allies and even some of our allies. The fact that it came out in the news like this is no doubt some sort of passive-aggressive smear campaign.
 
Thank you god. This has to be the 90th 'exposé' I've seen on this EXACT topic, and every time the quiet military analyst tells us that this is nothing new.

How stupid would a superpower-class nation be if they were unprepared for every possible conflict? Well we've already proven that we are pretty dumb. These plans have been drawn up for years and theyre there in case something provokes us to use them.

What you SHOULD be worrying about is if something is in fact going to do so before shrub's term ends.

But stop panicing like morons and start picketing like statesmen, or get into politics and try to do something.

i doubt if it ever really happens. but yeah. they failed to wrap up the afganistan situation before jumping into iraq, and heaven knows thats no where near wrapped up...
 
Testing public opinion? In Australia? The only news outlet I have seen make any mention of this is the one you posted. Besides, if you read the article, that only thing it really mentions is a change in a potential attack plan...that has already existed for a while. I'll believe it when I see it happen. Speculation doesn't mean anything, and I'm not really convinced that this is anything new.
 
Blah Blah Blah same old shit, that article is a bunch of bs. No named sources and alot of alledgedlys. Here is the real deal, nothing will happen before the elections and even if you wanted to where the hell are they going to get the troops from ? Air raids and then nothing does not seem like a reasonable plan. The long and short of it is there aren't any more troops and the draft isn't happening in the short term and I doubt that they think that there would be no reaction from Iran. Part of politics is making the other guy think that the hammer is always right over there head.
 
This has worried me for a while just because of how much shit we are talking on their new government and nuclear policies. One of the only things that makes me think it might happen is the cost of getting all of our troops there. When the Iraq war started I remember seeing all kinds of cost figures on the news about how expensive it is for just oil to transport all of our troops and machinery there. As the war in Iraq was going on and the government started giving Iran more and more shit, I just thought, you know they might just try something while we have a huge bulk of our military over there already.

But on the brighter side I think everyone agrees war with Iran would be much more difficult than the other two conflicts going on over there right now.
