US open blew it

the jump definitely looked smaller than last year too, and the snow didn't help anyone for speed

i didn't see it but i was thinking that it'd be cool if one day in the future scores could be made p of 50% technichal and 50% style so that grabs and holding them, landing perfect, tweaks and floatines and things were all as important as the number of times you spin aound. maybe that way people do something other than fakie10s...

style was totally ignore, The judges need to take a good hard long look at there policy, Id rater see a smooth 9 that a shabby 10,

It was boring to watch but Colby probably did deserve it.. in better contitions maybe some different shit woulda been thrown.. Colby's sw10 was huge and pretty steezy

yeah bad camera angles and basically all switch 10's...but you have to remember that colorado is having the most epic year since 1984 with snow

were you actually watching last nigh, I though it was pretty dope that NS had it live, but the comp itself was a bit stunted

tough to ski the park in fresh pow kiddies, but why would you wana ski anythin but the park anyway? Copper cant keep the mountain from snowing.

The skiers are not competing to entertain you, they are competing to win. get learned on the way a capitalist society works. it's all about fighting your way to the top tier.

us open sucked big time this year..the slopestylew course was a shame for such a big competition, even in skihalls they are able to put the rails in thousand times better then they did the dfl for example at the open...the kickers had been too small, just compared to last year this years us open had been such a big step backwards...just look at all the pros they did not even compet cause of the course and of the shape....

it´s also a shame that they are not havin a single reserve day, for example the slopestyle finals...otherwise there would have been better tricks thrown down in the comp....

nobody can change the weather b ut still a reserve day would might have been a good option...

as well they should think about the set up for next year...

i can just hope for european open this year...they gonna be huge and laax is alwayz puttin up a super sick park!!!!!

it was pretty funny listening to Uncle E and Co trying to make it sound awesome. " OH MY GOD LOOK AT THAT SWITCH 10, SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE LAST 38..."

in the head? i guess you'll not last long before you die then...

i'm sure someone who knows you will be gutted...

I could care less if they entertain me, the course was horrible, the judging sucked absolute dick.

BTW im not even talking about big air last night, just the whole comp in general.

You are welcome to host your own competition.

I thought the competition was fine, some up and comers beat out alot of the big guys, which is what the US open is all about. I honestly do not see your problem.

"ZOMG BAD CAMERA ANGLES!!"

Jesus christ you guys like to complain. You do realize how much work it takes to have a live streaming internet footy of this comp dont you? Who gives a fuck if the angle is bad, at least you got to see it from the comfort of your house.

Well if i did id make sure that the US OPEN would have bigger jumps than 55ft and make sure the judges actually knew how to judge.

If the judges were mostly judging on a spin to win / who has the best 1080 then I don't understand why Giray came in 9th in qualifying and didn't make it to the finals. He threw a switch ( I think) 1260 that I thought was pretty sick.

i'm not here to bitch and moan, because frankly i could care less. but that AJ dude was way, way, waaay more stylish than anyone else on the slopestyle course, and wasn't rewarded. shame.

I have colby and jossi on my ffl team. the comp this year in general was not up to par though. the slopstyle course was super weak. it was flat and had small jumps and limited what the skiers could actually do, i didn't catch the big air but from what i've heard and seen it's a bummer to see progression get stunted and have the comp look like 06. The US Open should be about the progression of skiing and taking it to new levels each year.

I thought the live streaming onto NS was the sickest thing ever. I thought the jumps werent te best but there was pow on the course which you cant help so weather had its toll once again...

blah, blah, blah

"OMG! this was the worst comp evers!!! GAY! People do 1080's! gay! only straight airs are cool!! OMG! this is so different from any other comp!!!!!! OMG! My opinion is so different than everyone else who bitches on this site!"

slopestyle was more like a powder hunt and big air was dull but pipe comp saved a bit. AJ was mad steezy.

pipe saved the day. the strength in depth was stronger than the x games i think.. AJ was sick and i don't normally do this but xavier b got fucked, shoulda got silver and kalle leinonen should been 3rd. o well...

the us open was mediocre.

copper has built a slopestyle course that presents a myriad of problems, even in the best of conditions, two years running. The rails are nice. Better than what Vail provided, but the jumps.... ick!! Tiny with too many damn speed issues.

Big air=big joke

I understand the riders are going for the win. I've been there, done that (smaller scale of course) but I think the problem lies within the format and judging itself. The past 2 years, a sw 10 did not win, which was a relief. But this year... so fucking monotonous. Sw 10 after sw 10. No variety what-so-ever. Events such as WSI and JOI have utilized rider talent, such as rotation categories, amongst others, rather than rewarding the biggest sw 1080. I'm not saying the US Open big air should be a mere carbon copy of something like the aforementioned, but a little emulation wouldn't fucking hurt. That was the most bogus shit to watch.

Pipe=tits

and i should add that the US Open is the biggest ski open event in the world, and this is its standard????? Fuck that.

What happened to perfection and forethought? The slopestyle course and big air could have been so much better.

o yea man Uncle E is a total queer. The few time I've encountered him in person he offered me blowjobs. And by "me" I mean anyone in charge of getting commentators at a ski event. He's at them all, making a fool of hiimself. He's like that dbag dating school guy Mystery with his faggot hats.

i would say it was a pretty good comp. all except for the jumps being a little small, it was pretty well done. it is really hard to keep a smooth course when it is blizzarding. the people running the comp were doing there best to keep everyone happy. i was bummed cause i had a vip pass and there was like nothing they would let you in for with a vip. that was kinda ridiculous. but otherwise, i was pretty happy with the comp.

seemings how ive actually run a comp or two in my day, i can see where some of the failures of this years USO came from. weather is something that you can't control and when you are designing a course or a jump you aren't anticipating a snow storm to be taking place throughout the course of the event. sure the jumps in slopestyle and big air could have been bigger, but if they were any bigger people would have been casing even more. everyone is complaining about small jumps, but clearing those small jumps was already an issue. as far as a lot of the top pros backing out goes, that wasn't because of how the course was designed, this wasn't copper's fault. they dropped out because it was fucking dumping and skiing park in a blizzard isn't necessarily fun. as for the judging and what not, its obviously always a hot topic. being in its first year at copper the event coordinators obviously have a lot to learn, but that's just how it goes. if the USO returns to copper next year i can guarantee that they fix some of their mistakes and everyone can be happy. in the meantime, give props where they are due, putting on an event, especially of this magnitude, is more difficult than you can imagine. so for what its worth, congrats to copper and everyone involved in the USO, you did the best you could and overall ran a sick comp, well done.
