I am predicting a registration open for about 2 hours, with an excessive amount of skiers. Way more than they wanted to fit. Also every main sponsor in the industry gets to automatically put 5 athletes in events. Not so 'Open' huh?

sloepstyle filled up within like an hour anyway....ur want has become a no chance. i registered then called my friend to register and within 5-10 mins slopestyle was full.

^ get on a wait list... this is ridiculous though, they need more days or more opens... i mean if they are going to publish all this stuff in mags about nobodys becoming gods, like TJ last year, then everybody wants to go, but there are only like 50 spots, then its an internet/luck/who u know battle... they just need more days....

yeah its pretty stupid. they should do like they do for the US Open (of snowboarding), even the pros (except for the ones that finished in the top 15 or 20 in the previous year) have to go through qualifiers, so everyone has an equal chance. I think there is like 160 spots for each event or somethin like that and then there is mad qualis throughout the course of like 3-4 days.

For anyone complaining about the 5 spots that the major ski companies get for their top pros, think about it for a second. No offense the the majority of people on this site but if TJ had won the Open last year and Tanner, Jon, Henrick,or any of the other top pros had not been there then it would totally kill the credibility of winning the event, the purpose of the open is to let people come out and show their shit against the big boys. Most pros don't have time to sit infront of their computers all day waiting for the 15 minute window of registration, our sponsors would much rather they be out skiing (doing their job) Think about the companies who take these spots. Dynastar, Armada, 4frnt, Atomic, Salomon, Volkl, Line, Rossi, 5 spots for each company ads up to a whopping 40 of the 160 available spots, even if they alow more than 5 to certain companies and max it out at 50 or 60 that's still 100 to 110 available spots for guys to get in there. 4 years ago the cut off was 100 total and 35+ of those were filled with pros, so it's alot better than it used to be.

The Open sucks anyways, why would you guys want to travel all the way to Vail get 2 hours of training on shitty jumps the day before you have to qualify then compete. I don't even think this it's a safe event because of the lack of training time. an event like this should have a minimum 2 full days of training before it happens. I hate getting there and watching kids huck themselves off shitty jumps just to make a name for themselves. Don't get me wrong, I've done it too, but that doesn't make it smart. 2 years ago they didn't even have a training day, training took place the morning of qualifiers, it's BULLSHIT! Seroiously you're better off doing some of the other contests like the American Freeski tour events etc. they're not as big in status as the open but they still get the network TV coverage and you still have the chance to kick some Big Name ass because alot of big names still come out to them. I dunno, I just don't see the point in it. If it wasn't for those 'sponsor spots' alot of the Pros wouldn't do the event, they only do it to make their sponsors happy.

rex has a point about the practice, i really do hope there's an extra one this year

i ate shit on the last jump two years ago during the like hour long practice we had and spent the whole day in the vail medical center or whatever...it was weak

last year they had their shit together better at least with the full practice day, but that god damn kink box broke my ski (nail sticking out of it)...so that didn;t help my training at all

I think I saw you in the ER that year, I was in getting stitches in my elbow. I returned to compete in heat 6 with 1 practice run, it kicked ass.

All I'm saying about the event is that it could be ran better, especially since it's the longest running slopestyle event, you'd think after 7 years they'd have it down. I don't care about the training time as much for myself as the young rippers out there. Providing not enough training time for them is dangerous, I just don't like seeing people get hurt under totally avoidable circumstances. Hopefully this year they do get an extra day of training, I'd be stoked, it'd deffinitely make the event better. Hopefully I'll see a bunch of you guys there.

well there are 2 days of qualifying this year... i dont know about practice but we had a whole day last year, as long as you go at a reasonable time and get one last look through before you go, you should be fine.
