Urge the UN to end the War on Drugs!

can someone explain to me WHY you would want to stop the war on drugs? I mean aren't drugs bad..?

i mean, itd be cool if they chilled out about weed, but i dont really want mexican heroin kingpins running around at their own free will, bringing their cartels with them. the war on drugs is still important IMO, because for the most part they just focus on the bigger picture.

How about no. How about we actually stand up as people and pull out of the UN. Seriously a retarded organization that we shouldn't be in.

if it were legalized and regulated those guys would be out of their jobs with their thumbs up their asses fighting a war over nothing so I'd say it'd be a smart decision to make. heroin addicts will keep doing heroin. and people who never want to touch heroin wont do it. dont have a drug super store. find small time vendors a lowscale smokeshop in the inner city give them a license to sell hard drugs they'll make money get rid of drug kingpins at least in america and shit will be right in the world. there will be an initial spike in users of those types of drugs itll plateau after a period of time and drop back down again. its happened in a few countries and every time same result spike plateau drop. less crime less over crowding in jails. less gang violence honestly in my opinion its pretty damn logical but no a petition on NS wont do it and itll take years and years of fighting through a beauracratic nightmare of politicians congress all of that. just like any major change in this nations traditional ways. boom poly sci

Most people have the thought like the dude you replied to has. It will still take a while to show them the logic you just explained. The best we can do for now is just really educate everyone.

this is boring lets talk about this

it says "art of trolling" at the bottom, kinda ruins it...

and in response to the pro-harddrugs guys up there, i see what youre saying but i think that if hard drugs were just legalized, the shitstorm that would follow would be worse than whatever the drug-resisting governments put up with now.

drug addicts with no money that know where they can get said drugs... it'd be like dawn of the dead. gte yer gunz boyz!

Hahah why the hell would you want to end the war on drugs? I don't want a million fucking crack baby's roaming around..

There already are a million fucking crack baby's roaming around as you put it. All we do is throw addicts into a system that they can't get out of. Within a regulated and decriminalized market you have to put treatment facilities in place. Those facilities are the ones that dispense the drugs. They watch over addicts as they use the drugs and also help them if they want to quit. Heroin assisted treatment centers has worked in a bunch of countries, the one that stands out the most is Holland. The number of heroin addicts in Holland has dropped by more than 30% since 1983. If you know some of the history about Holland you would know that before it was the pot capital of the world, it was straight up filled with heroin junkies. There was also some recent research that showed that the junkies were not on the streets any more and made the treatment facilities permanent and not just a trial anymore.

You've missed the part where drugs become addictive.

Random citizen's thought process:

1. Huh, heroin is legalised

2. Hmm, just got paid, might see what the fuss is all about

3. "Hello shopkeeper, some heroin please"

4. I might take that heroin now

5. Fuck, that feels good, definitely getting some more of that

6. Fuck that feels good, I need more of that

7. Might skip work today, do some heroin.

8. Might quit work, do some heroin. Can't really concentrate, I'm so high

9. Damn, no income this week for my heroin. Oh well, better go and do crime.

Who the fuck even does heroin? lol

just legalize weed. SHIT AINT ADDICTIN'

--------------------------------------------

And LAWL @ Nicks first post. hahha..

i doubt anyone's just gonna casually pick up heroin because its legal, regardless of law the social stigma towards hard drugs will remain. anyone who wants to try heroin will regardless of some silly law.

furthermore someone who is addicted to heroin would now be able to find heroin (or whatever drug) of which he is sure of the quality and easily obtain clean syringes...what the addict is doing is still probably harmful and we may not agree with his choice but atleast he can be sure of the potency of the drug and cleanliness of the syringe.

finally id take a dude stealing my car radio for heroin over criminal organizations which are largely funded by drug production/distribution (heroin being especially bad as almost all heroin is produced in middle east and serves as a huge income for terrorism)

heroin ain't that hard to find, and weed is definitely addicting...

we would need to incorporate these drugs into the pharmaceutical system for the US government to be able to recognize them. that's the issue. if it has no medicinal value, then it doesn't become legal. how do you think alcohol became legal after the prohibition? started out with bars in pharmacies. now we have medicinal marijuana...

there are also enough chemists giving the DEA a helluva time now with 'bath salts' and that k2/spice shit that the government should probably start to look at legalization/research on all new chemicals. that could potentially limit the underground market and start research for 'safe' (safER) designer drugs. substance abuse is obviously unhealthy, though so I can't say I'm for any of this.

all this is is a bunch of kids and old hippies with the occasional person who actually cares wanting the UN to stop this war on drugs cause they think it'll be easier for them to smoke w33d, which it won't.

You're a fucking idiot. Don't post as if you're on some level of knowledge when you're ridiculously ignorant on the subject.

Drug prohibition is one of the most ridiculously failed policies on all ends, yet we continue to throw 50 billion $$$ a year into it and through a shit ton of people in jail.

I can say, firsthand, that yes, it's possible. and our government is too stubborn and conservative to change their drug policy.

ya your not even close man. If a person wants to shoot heroin they are going to go get it, its not hard to find. so lets leglize it make it safer, and be able to track the users

Exactly. People are living in their own little world. Every drug can be found in every city.

Legalizing kills a huge part of the supply of money into gangs used to purchase weapons. A lot of gang violence is related to turf control in the drug trade.

Legalizing drugs makes the product as clean as possible. You won't run the risk of doing a drug having no clue what the actual chemical composition is.

Honestly how many people are going to go out and start shooting heroin simply because it's legal? I sure as hell not.

IF we put the 50 billion we spend on a failed drug war into education and treatment we'd already be in a much better spot. And by education, I mean real education. Look at all the money we spend telling kids that marijuana is the most dangerous drug and kills everyone? That's not education, that's bullshit propaganda.

If we taxed the drugs we could make a shit ton of money and actually start doing something about the debt situation.

Oh yeah and even if that all was bullshit which it isn't, DRUG PROHIBITION SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK.

We're supposed to learn something from history. It's a failed policy yet we continue it. We actually keep upping the penalties and making more laws regarding it. Even if we made the penalties ridiculously harsh, it wouldn't solve the problem. The harsher the penalties, the more risk involved, the more risk involved the more money to be made. As long as drugs are illegal, their will always be people willing to sell them and try to make money. Especially in a shitty economy.

Anybody who thinks the drug war is a success need to get out of their little bubble world more often.

just throwing this out there but why even debate whether we should do something because a) the UN can't do shit. pay attention to international politics and you will understand. b) all countries would have legalize drugs. When have all the governments actually agreed on something? basically this doesn't matter because as of now it can't be fixed.
