They make (and may still make) both the Flyer AND the Filter, I know they did up until 2006 when I bought them.  The Filter was/is a ski that has the exact same footprint as the Flyer but is made with a different core.
Sports Authority most likely worked out the deal so that they could sell a lower priced Salomon twin tip to a wider base.  When I was looking at skis back then I wrote Salomon and this is what they said,
"The Filter is a specially made ski for The Sports  Authority:

PU injected Core/ Monocoque Lite Construction

This ski has the same footprint as the FLYER,  but with the PU injected core (foam cut to shape of ski)  rather than the isocell complex core."
