Urban skiing sucks

This thread is stupid. I have as much respect for urban skiers as I have for any one else pursuing the sport they love. It takes just as many balls to hit some sketchy ass street rail as it does to huck a 50ft cliff.

Urban skiing is just as important to the sport as BC and Park skiing are. You are very wrong sir.

Have you ever hit an urban rail? It's way harder than a park rail. There's more consequence and it's sketchy as shit. I'd rather watch an urban edit than park edit to be honest sometimes. There's way more that goes into it and it takes a lot more commitment from the skier and the crew in general.
Not to mention how much more there is that you can do. There's only so many ways you can hit a rail at a park. But with urban you have a lot more freedom to build what you want and make a feature your own. Hell check out keynote skier if you haven't. You think a park edit compares to that? There's soooo much creativity packed into that edit. It's ridiculous.
It's also a fun ass time. If you've ever gone out at midnight and filmed/ rode with a group of friends you'd understand. It's a different kind of vibe than at a park. At least in my experience that is.

Let's take Level 1's Less for example. 85% of the movie was urban shots. There was a few minutes of park shots, and a couple scenes of powder, but the majority of movie was urban. About halfway through I got a little bored of it and had to take a break. In my opinion (which I know differs greatly from others on this site), is in order to have a well put together ski movie, a balance needs to be in order. I thin mixing in one or two urban scenes with big mountain and powder skiing gives a movie a nice varied offering. Just my $0.02.

rather watch crazy ass handrail wizardry in urban environment than just yet another park edit.
but I get the other point. movies need a well rounded mix of urban, BC, massive booters, little park and lifestyle... still, urban is where the creativity is unlimited

as sick as it is, i wouldn't do it myself unless there was loads of snow, that tarmac/concrete grinding ruins your skis

There are some crews that focus on mostly urban, and some crews that focus on mostly backcountry. If you hate street skiing, you probably shouldn't be watching 4bi9 or stept movies- they have always had a ton of street in their films.
Also in my opinion, there is not one thing lame about urban… it's one of the most high risk and challenging types of skiing out there.

Urban has definitely changed our sport for the better. Segments with urban in them are way cooler and different than seeing the same gay pros hitting the same gay features. Urban has an infinite number of features to hit, and every shot is different. not to mention its much more difficult to hit most urban features than park features. You cant say urban sucks, there's no way you can possibly back that up.

Urban is super hard to do. It takes massive balls to send it and pure skill to not get hurt. I find its an aspect of the sport where the consequences of a crash are insane. Mad props of the guys who enjoy it; I tried, but getting hurt really sucks.

Yup, definitely needs to be more park segments in movies....
