I'm starting an urban rail map for posting locations of urban rails, drops, or anything you can hit on skis. Check out the map at http://www.flickr.com/map/?q=urbanrails

You can view all the rails by scrolling through the images at the bottom of the map.

If you only want to see rails in a certain location just zoom in and click refresh at the bottom of the map.

ADDING RAILS TO THE MAP:

1. Make a Flickr account. Go to http://www.flickr.com/signup/ You'll need a Yahoo account to use Flickr, if you don't have one click Sign Up at the bottom of the page.

2. Upload your photos. Make sure the privacy level is set to public so anyone can view them.

3. Tag all your photos with "urbanrails". Click Organize, then Select All at the bottom of the page and drag the photo's into the edit window, click Add Tags at the top to tag them with "urbanrails". Make sure it is exactly this tag or they won't show up on the map.

4. Set their geo-location on the map. Click the arrow next to "Organize" and click "Your Map", then just drag the photos onto the map and it sets the location.

5. Check the map at http://www.flickr.com/map/?q=urbanrails to make sure it worked.
 
this should be stickied this is an awesome idea. you travel and can just search up some urban to hit.

Haha, good luck getting people to actually add cool urbans, why would people tell you where they have found urbans at? Urban rails are about finding and hitting not telling the whole world and blowing up the spots.
 
fucking great idea, but eheath has it right i think cuase i wouldnt tell anyone about my spots if i thought they were gonna film them before i do...
 
You kidding me? When you hit a rail and it doesnt get busted, then its hittable again. When dumbshit kids find out about your rail and blow up the spot, then you cant hit it anymore. Sharing where you have found urban is stupid, no one legit will tell you where rails are. I mean, you guys could probably make a pretty sweet map 5ft bomb drops and 10 stair down rails.
 
Horrible idea. Why would you want to tell a bunch of kids your secret urban spots. If you guys want to see new creative urban don't tell people where you find a spot. This happened to skateboarding a long time ago. Most of the time tricks done on the same rail are weaker than the first trick.
 
Yeah because I'm going to fly all the way to VT to hit a rail some kid posted a picture of. Everyone keep your shit a secret or else all the creativity in skiing will disappear!
 
If you want a high bust factor create this map. I never said people were gonna fly to hit an urban rail. Its more local kids thinking they can hit it. The more people hit a rail the more attention that area gets making it a lot harder to film that rail. If you don't believe me look at skateboarding and the numerous rails that have been knobbed, cut off, or taken out because tons of people hit them.
 
Word so does you and all the other retard 15 year olds in this thread, so its cool.
 
i can't say for sure, but i think this will create more opportunities to hit rails than it will cause busts. don't post rails on here if you don't want people to know about them, but there's no way this will make skiing any worse. the more people that hit urban the better because i think it's the sickest part of the sport.

no, from what i got out of your post your worried about these getting busted, i dont see the cops going on to this site to see where they are. and if your worried about other kids finding you secrete spots, chances are they know it already, if not, whats another 2 kids hitting it 2 times that season?
 
He already explained it. More people hitting a spot leads to a higher likelihood of it getting busted / knobbed. It matters. This debate has been around forever.

I'm happy to contribute a few though. Good spots that are unknown however, I will not.
 
Its not even this post in particular, but you are a truly negative person. I would like to see you in person, i feel like the reason you are so negative is because you are insecure about yourself. All you do is hate on everything and I am not trying to sound like a tool, but if are this negative in person i can guarenteeIi would beat the hell out of you. Honestly people like you are just annoying and full of themselfs and I would love to hear you hate on people in front of me because i will shut your ass up.

And for the negative nancies out there, if you're a stingy local, don't share. The dilemna is the same for any sport not restricted to a court/field. On one hand, you want to help those just getting started, but you also want to maintain the good places you've found yourself. Donate some to the greater good, but keep some favorites.

Its a good idea and worth a try.
 
i don't know a lot about flickr yet, but you might want to try marking your photo's as safe. otherwise just mess around with the organize options and post up if you find any fix for it.
 
i think you need to chill out a bit. maybe, just maybe this will turn out to be a good thing and people will find more sick rails that don't get busted. maybe more people will end up getting busted because of this, but probably only because more people are actually hitting urban rails. there has been the technology to make a map like this for a long time it's just nobody has done it yet. it's completely voluntary to use so there is no need for you or any other legit people to help with this. it will probably piss off some people that have spent years finding rails but that's going to happen no matter what... it's just people get pissed when something changes the norm. in a couple years if this has spots of rails that you didn't know about and you go hit those rails nobody will care what you said about it now. no matter how much you argue about it there is nothing you can do to stop people from using it.
 
most of the fun you get from going on an urban trip is finding your own rails, and knowing that you are the first people to hit it.
 
Yeah ok kid, all I was really tryin to say is no one is going to tell you where their legit urban is and it turned into some other shit so don't worry about it, i could care less if it happens but its not going to help people find sick rails, its gonna help people find played rails. If thats not a problem for you then cool, but i was just making a side comment and it blew up.
