Urban lighting

Having trouble getting the lighting right when we go out to shoot urban. We usually have 2 or 3 decent flood lights with us and what ever lights are already at the facility of course. Unfortunately our shots look nothing like the pros. The lighting is all wack and looks really artificial. How can we fix this? Do we need more lights or just better placement of lights and better camera angles?

I don't know if you're already doing this but make sure your lights aren't only on the feature that you are hitting. For example: if you're hitting a down rail or something don't only put light on the rail part, you might want to put a light towards the front of the rail and one near the end. It will just help it look more natural when you see it on video.

yeah, going off what he said, light some of the surroundings like a wall or tree so that there is kinda a context to the feature, otherwise it will look kinda weird, like there is just a random rail.

I guess if your lights are big enough that they can cover the whole feature using only one then you could do one light on the feature and then another on a tree or something but I don't know how big your flood lights are

I use three lights: a main one to light the skier/ feature, a secondary one to give context and light surrounding area and a tertiary light to act as a backlight, which could be what you're getting wrong. You have to light the subject from being to give it a sense of realism. Also m&a
