Hey all!

I know I'm posting this in the wrong forum, but we need you to help!

To fully test the new video section, we need you to upload videos directly to the site. No posting youtube embed videos, because that helps nobody but youtube!

SO give it a try... take some of your vids hosted on Youtube and post them directly to NS!

Everyone just quickly upload one or two, and we'll really get to put this thing through the paces...

I'm begging!!!

This is a great day in NS history. Harvey would be proud. Video bandwidth limitations were one of NS' biggest problems in the past.
 
NS should NOT abandon the old uploading system, it's sooo much more legit than flash video, that's why youtube is gayer than aids. Yeah NS has a 50mb upload limit but if you can compress a video with good quality to 50 mbs you know it's going to be that same quality where as flash videos you compress it only to 100 mbs and then they slaughter the quality that you worked hard fidiling with compression rates to get. i'm down with both but DONT Get RID OF the REGULAR VIDEO SECTION! that's the only reason i still upload to NS.
 
Which is why we DO offer both!

Look.... right below the Embed code box there's something that says "Download:" THen it has two options... .mp4 or Original!

Unlike Youtube we offer the download of the original file if you want it. So you can get the flash video browsing experience using .h264, and then still just watch the plain old raw file.

The problem now is that people are just posting zillions of links to youtube videos in the gallery, when we've finally launched something that is way more functional.

I'm half tempted to take away the ability to embed videos in the gallery.... come on people post your vids direct to NS!

What happened? I had a problem with a .mov... but then Paul could upload the exact same file no problem.

What type of file was it? What computer/OS/etc?

I saw that you uploaded one, did it now work?

 
'NS newschoolers.com' watermark is MASSIVE and kills uploading videos to newschoolers. also; hating the thumbnail view of the videos, no longer is it simply a list that i can quickly run down and see the views # and comments # to determine which videos are most popular. also i just checked one of the videos and i got a line advertisement first, wack. "newschoolers needs to make money blah blah", thats fine but advertising before the member videos is getting a little inrusive.
 
Uploading MOV files didn't work for some people because the site relied on the MIME type supplied by the browser to identify the file. The gallery uploader has been changed to do a server-side check of the MIME type.

It should now work.
 
word yeah the option is a great idea, i just wasn't sure if it was like gay ass facebook that had a trial period then was like U MUST SWITCH NOW to gay shit. and yes that was a facebook reference, fuggit
 
I don't like the advertisements but the idea is awesome. the new video section could be great if everybody just posted their edits to NS. And yeah the 'NS newschoolers.com' watermark is also a bit too big. But anyway I do use the new section.

Btw was my summer edit (the one bishop embedded) like the first video uploaded to the system if you dont count bishops vids? :D lol

 
Well we're hoping for more of trying out the new way, then improving on it until its a mix between the new and old that everyone likes.

So different than facebook because we'll listen... Though really there probably isn't too much harm in just offering both modes.

 
We re-encoded all 20,000 videos that were already on NS. Some were so old, they didn't even have usernames with them. I dunno how we even count those. ;)
 
Word! Yeah it definitely worked now, thanks man. New section is dooope!! Everyone should just upload their shit to NS instead of Vimeo, youtube, etc...because it's the hottest video shit on the interwebs!
