Upgrading gear - looking for advice

I am looking to upgrade my equipment over this year. I have been shooting with a Canon 60D for the past 4 years and would really like to upgrade to full frame.

I currently shoot about 70% photo and 30% video, but I want to upgrade to a camera that is more rounded for videography, as I am planning on shooting a lot more of it. I have been shooting video on canon DSLRs for about 5 1/2 years. Would like a camera that is good in low light and outdoors. I shoot a lot of skateboarding, skiing, documentary and promotional (social media commercials for small business/ clients.)

If you guys can give me some advice on which lenses I own that translate well to full frame DSLR, and what lenses/model you would recommend me upgrading to. My current budget is around $2,750. The dream would be to upgrade camera model and purchase a well-rounded glass to go with it.

Current list of lenses:

Tokina 11-16MM

Rokinon 8mm Fish

Canon 18-135

Canon 50mm 1.4 F

Not sure how realistic of a budget that is, but I am hoping you guys can give me a better idea of what I am working with. Thank you in advanced.

$2750 for body only? Or body and glass?

The 50 is the only lens that will work on a full frame body.

IMO the best budget full frame glass setup is 17-40 f4, 70-200 f4 non-is, then fill in any gaps with primes and pick up a fish if you're into that.

Buy a gh5, sell lenses (minus the 11-16) and buy some other canon lenses with adapter. Could do the same thing with an a7s as well but you'd also sell the 11-16 if you did that, upgrade all lenses.

Was hoping for body and lens and willing to sell my current glass for the upgrade. Any full frame bodies you would recommend?

I don't know much about the GH5 but from the test footage i've watched online it looks awesome. Have you shot on one yet?

Also, what are a couple of lenses you would recommend upgrading to if I decide to invest in a GH5?

Metabones Speedbooster and Sigma 18-35 f/1.8. Kinda pricey but if you are doing anything lowlight related, its worth it. I just found a used 18-35 for $560 which is a damn good deal. I also have a 70-200 f/4 non is (f/2.5 with the speedbooster) and its perfect

What Metabones Speedbooster do you recommend if I am going to be shooting with an Tokina 11-16mm and a Sigma 18-35? (I plan on upgrading to an 18-35 fairly soon)

I have not, you might be more interested in the a7s if you wanna take photos, but the cameras a quite different.

Most people just use the canon lenses they already have when switching, but you have a limited supply. There are tons of different options at different price ranges for these cameras. You need to choose a mount type and go from there. Sony/Pani both make great native lenses for their cameras, but there are also great adapters for nikon or canon. I personally use nikon lenses on my gh3, but that's because I already had a quiver of nikon lenses that I used on my fs100.

For skiing you usually want a wide zoom, mid range zoom and a tele zoom, ie tokina 11-16, tamron 17-50, canon 17-40 or 16-35, a 24-70/28-70 depending on budget and a 70-200. Prime lenses work great too, but IMO i prefer a good set of zooms, easier to dial in your framing and more efficient in the field.

I have the EF to M4/3 0.71x XL one. I have an 11-16 too and at 11mm there is a little tiny bit of vignetting but 12-16 works great. 11mm is usable but the darkness annoys me a little bit. I get my 18-35 today and I'll let you know how it works later. Also try and get a speedbooster used. the $649 retail is ridiculous. I got mine for a little over $400 on ebay.

I was pretty thrown off by the prices I saw regarding speedbosters. Can the EF to M4/3 0.71x XL be used with both those lenses?

Thanks for the advice btw!

Probably going to keep my 60D for photos as it is more of a hobby for me. After spending the past day looking into the GH5 I am pretty convinced that will be my purchase. You get so much for the price.

I appreciate all the advice. Thanks.

I know, its a bit ridiculous. Aputure makes a similar speedbooster that has a remote with a wheel so you can control f stop, manually pull focus, and other stuff and its $589 or something like that. Ebay is definitely your friend when looking for any speedbooster. And the XL speedbooster works great for both lenses. I use it on my GH4 and its flawless. Check out Andyax on youtube, he has a great review of the sigma 18-35 with the speedbooster and GH4.

TBH man you have one decent canon lens (11-16) and the rest are trash. Sell your canon stuff, but some nikon mount lenses and native lenses. Metabones are very expensive and you could buy a nice lens for the same price, the adapters for nikon lenses are 50-200 depending on the quality, but I use a $50 adapter on my gh3.

But the thing is with a normal mft-f adapter is theres still the 2x crop factor, so youd need to base the lenses you buy around that. There is some cheaper speedboosters around but I've heard its a hit or miss with most of them

You still buy the same lenses really, the 11-16 is still very wide at 11 on a 2x crop.

Took your word and bought the GH5 and a Panasonic lens. Sold all my old Canon stuff excluding the 11-16mm . No regrets what so ever I am absolutely loving the upgrade. Appreciate the advice. Another question for you though. My current editing setup is on a 2010 iMac with 2.7GHz processor. Do you think that is enough to properly edit 4k footage from the GH5?

probably not, 4k footage is very intensive. I just got a gh5 as well and this desktop I've been using to edit for the last 3 years can't edit 4k60.

are you editing off proxy files? My work computer's also hella slow and I haven't found another workaround for it
