"And last but certainly not least, we don't

want to give too much away, but some really cool changes are about to

go down on Newschoolers.com, so make sure you stay glued to the site

over the next week
to check it out..."

That was in the October 2009 mailout. So when during the next week can we expect NS' servers to be down for the redesign to occur?

I think it looks sick, by the way.

Yes! Looks so nice. Check out the searchbar. Looks like advanced search is going to be right there. I'm so stoked.

looks nice and smooth.

good work on placing the ad on the side. I went back to check what 'home' looks like now and the ad separating the main articles from the video of the day section makes the whole site come out kind of wonky.

I'm stoked to spend my firs skiless winter on such a pretty lookin' thing.

0, this looks really good. other then hate on the awesome new logo I think the new site will be well received by everyone

We are incredibly excited about this re-design. Some of you might get a bit shocked because we've moved around a few things and really worked on the layout of the pages.

Whoever said it is right though, this site is a fucking MESS. Homepage is a disaster, the navigation is garbage... and many of the pages in the navigation are a complete mess too.

So we spent a ton of time re-laying all of that stuff out and doing everything we could to make it a more intuitive and creatively designed website.

Should be a couple of days now, because we're not pushing it out until its right. Stoked to see how you guys like it though.

Or you could try running the new NS site without ad-block plus and try it for a while. The new ad locations are far less intrusive.

this.
Yeah come on... we're adding all kinds of awesome advertisers lately too.... support the business and turn off adblock!
At least once in a while...

The major complaint we had with the ads was the drop down ones covering the navigation. We moved the ads below navigation so that this will no longer happen.
We also dropped the ad count on the homepage from 5 to 3. The goal here was to be less scattered.
The ads are closer together and organized in such a way to attempt to give a more focused brand image. The hope is that people will notice them a bit more in the current spots, and we can increase the quality of the ads.
The main focus here was alignment. So saying its badly designed isn't looking at it right... remember you're looking at a tiny .jpg from an email, which doesn't even have the full first fold displayed. Please refrain on making judgement until you see the live version.
And yes, the online list and entire left sidebar are gone on certain pages. We asked you guys about this a billiion times, and everyone agreed that the left sidebar was a redundant waste of space on certain pages. So it is gone on all content pages that would benefit from the extra real-estate, but present on all community pages where you would want to know who is online. We have also created a new online list for cults, so you'll be able to see who is online in your cult, making it easier to form and foster smaller communities.
To address the loss of messages, quicklinks and friends we created a new navigation module that sits at the top left. When you click the quicklinks button, they drop down. Same with friends. We added an inbox manager for your messages to clean up that interface as well.
I know its going to take some getting used to, but I really believe that the new version of the site is sweet. Hopefully you guys like it too.
