Unveiled - 100% GoPro Edit... Thoughts?

Hey guys, I made the decision to film a ski edit entirely on the GoPro Hero 4 (black and silver.) It was fun to take on the challenge of a camera with so many limitations. Let me know what you guys think!

I really enjoyed it. Almost all of the shots were pretty smooth and the edit had a fun, relaxed vibe. Good work.

I liked that alot, how are you stabilizing your gopro? I'm working on different stabilizers so you've got me curious! Filming was smooth and I liked your editing. One thing ive noticed with gopro/fisheyes is you can utilize the skate style of filming like close to lip with a camera pan, low angles follow cam etc.

Thanks dude, I recently picked up a motorized stabilizer. It's a handheld 3-axis gimbal made by Feiyu Tech. So far it's been working really well!

Awesome video!

Not many people to followcam-style GoPro videos well, but with your stabilizer, this was buttery smooth and it felt very cinematic!

Were you using post stabilization as well or no?

Was the footage graded? (if so, on what?)

What has your experience been with the Hero 4 Black? Is it worth the price tag? Any thoughts?

I am thinking about getting one to compliment my 60D in edits.

FANTASTIC VIDEO!

Wow those shots look smooth! How is the feiyutech holding up on jumps? Have you done any follow shots going over bigger jumps?

Thanks man! I ran a 10% warp stabilizer over it, but it barely needed anything. There was no grading done, just levels adjustment and a little saturation. The Hero 4 Black is definitely a big step up from the 3+. I shot this on both the Black and Silver with a mix of 1080p60 and 120 and both cameras were great. The Black is great for higher frame rates but overall it's a toss up between which camera is better. The screen on the Silver is a really handy tool as well.

The challenge with the feiyutech off of bigger jumps is controlling the downward pan. If you try and follow off the jump behind them they fall out of frame on the landing. You have to try and jump at the exact same time and film from the side. It's challenginge. I'm working on it.

that was pretty sick. definitely a cool feel good colors and smooooooth!

that being said, some of your follows got a little far at times. with the gopro you gotta be right up in the action. people don't give filmers the skiing credit they deserve cuz you gotta be boostin those knuckles to get the shots sometimes

Smooth but not the camera has 'so many limitations' but your mind does.. Dont want to be rude but all rail and jump shots were kinda the same.. Shoot different angles, not only followcam.

Things that went through my head:

- up/flat/down rail, stand still on the side, dont move camera, get whole rail in frame.

- shoot a rail from bellow

- shoot rail from the rear

- put gopro on a mount on top of the wallride

- forgot the rest

I wanted to bump this thread because I kinda want a Hero 4. I just shoot things for fun and I have a Hero 3 Black now but the video quality just seems much better on the 4, and I have a big gift card that would make the camera like $100. The lighting seems way better and obviously the extra FPS on the video settings look cool. I would use it for surfing and skating too probably. Thoughts?

Do it! If you sold your Hero 3 you'd be coming out ahead and the 4 creates some awesome images.

Id think about how much you are going to use it over the summer. The 3+ still makes great quality, and you know the 4+ is coming out in october.

So if its just mainly for skiing, do you want the 4 for 2 months of skiing this year, or want to wait for the 4+ for all winter next year? The 3+ is still a great camera, I would wait for the 4+ in october, but thats just me.

I have the 3, not the 3+.

Yeah, I thought about it. Is it worth waiting for? I mean I don't want it to take forever to upload it to the computer if I'm using a higher setting. What will I get if I wait?

i don't think anybody knows the specs of it yet. It probably won't be a massive upgrade from the 4, but it will definitely be a upgrade.

Probably the same kind of upgrade as if you went from 3 to 3+

so basically you just want to think about how much you would use the go pro this summer, or is it mainly for skiing? if its mainly skiing use, i would wait until the 4+ comes out. But if you want to get some good vids in this summer, then go with the 4!

all based on what you want! think about the future and plan accordingly! or be spontaneous and buy now! No matter what you choose I am sure you will be happy with your purchase as both the 4 and 4+ are / will be sick cameras

I decided to go out and buy it.

I'm actually stoked on it. I'm planning on getting lots of surf clips over the summer. Anyways, I figured they might increase frame rate and whatever but honestly the Hero 4 is rock solid on that and it would just take longer to upload.

Thanks guys
