UNR

Is UNR a good school. I could probably get into most of the U.C.s but i kind of want to be closer to tahoe than davis which is my first choice for now. I kinda dont trust it, mostly because it is reno, but maybe some people with real experience there can tell me about it. Thanks

uhm, Reno is legit. Its an awesome town, school is great, and really close to tahoe and squaw northstar boreal. Good choice, You prob wont be doing that much skiing if you go to Davis, but you will be able to shred.

Reno is amazing........ Davis ur not gonna ski, reno u are.... last year i got hurt twice and still made it up like 20 times

reno is legit. UNR is a good school some great programs and other just average, so it depends on your major. UNR is also a little less than half the size of davis so it's not a massive student body like davis, although it's still pretty big and there are plenty of people around. Not sure what would sketch you out about Reno or what that even means. Are you scared of a town with Casinos, drinking, near snow, and lots of hot college girls?

Around 17,000 students attend the University, they seem to trust it. You should visit the campus.

dude i lived in reno for 2 years and the skiing is awesome at rose cause there is no lift line. hit up the casinos but save enough for a decent pair of skis.

hank, don't base your opinion of the city from watching Reno 911. It's a pretty rad town, especially down by the river.

I seriously considered both Reno and Davis, but I ended up deciding to go to Utah haha.

UNR is dope. Close to snow, fun town, affordable tuition even if you live outta state, and has a really good ski scene. Academically its pretty solid, but like Jex said, its better in some things than in others. I think we can all agree that UC Davis has a little more going for it in terms of academics. So if your going to major in something like engineering or want to go to med school then its probably a better choice. Davis is also not very far from skiing (less than 2 hours), and also has a surprisingly good ski scene.

You should really go check both campuses out, because that gives you a MUCH better idea of what its like there.

here is how you make your decision
step 1. drive from reno to skiing, note time it took to get there and traffic.
step 2. drive from davis to skiing. all the way through sac with the hundred million asains going to go skiing on the weekend just like you
step 3. go to unr.

Having lived in Davis I can tell you right now, Davis is kind of boring as fuck. I had a great time there in high school but I wouldn't go to university there. Also, over 50% of the students at UCDavis are asian. We use to call the campus chinatown. Even though I hate frats, if I went to Davis I'd join one, only way you're gonna party. Davis cops fucking suck. Academics at Davis are overrated. Their student body is made up of asians who got bullshit 4.4 GPAs in high school and who have no social skills. One of my friends from davis high got denied with a 4.1 and multiple sports.

That being said Davis is almost always a solid 2 hours from Tahoe, we use to go all the time and its really not that bad of a drive. Doesn't compare to the 40 minute drive from Reno though. However, I never really wanted to chill in Reno again after witnessing a guy nearly die from being almost stabbed to death by his roommate at a house party I went to while I was very high. And like they say in Top Gear, "Reno is like Las Vegas, only smaller and worse".

Don't base your decision off of bullshit U.S. News Top College ranking reports. Go to both campuses, check out both cities, make your decision from there. If you want to ski more often, go to Reno, you'll meet alot more people that ski or snowboard and are actually good at it. In davis you'll meet a lot of people who say they do, but really most of them fucking suck at it.

At first I wasn't very stoked to go to school in reno...but over the years i have fell in love with it. Tons of rad people at UNR, and lots of stuff to do in the summer and winter. great place to live if you are an active person and like the outdoors.

yeah the school is ok and if you don't want to drive far go to rose or you could go to any other ski resort in under 1 hour.

Reno is all in all pretty fun. You just have to worry about liek stupid wanna be gangs and shit. except for MS13. haha dont fuck with the beaners!.

but yeah real close to skiing knowing the distance. and the skiing is real good too! Tahoe rep.

haha man im pretty sure it takes longer to get to rose than anywhere else... it takes 30 minutes to get to northstar from unr, 40 to squaw and 35 to boreal. it take like a half hour to to get to south reno from unr lol
