For religion to be rational you would have to prove it using logic. This can't be done deductively, you can only make a strong inductive argument. Therefore it is faith.

^^^^ I'm a Christian, so all the ones I could think of are Christian. But I'm sure there are apologists of other faiths as well.

Large lifted trucks are not that cool and neither is the douchy attitude that most of their drivers have.

I know what he means (unless he's really just an idiot) he just worded it wrong. You're not gonna be unsympathetic to someone who was injured or did a bunch of tours but the way some people (including some soldiers) act like it is an outright obligation to give unquestioning respect to anyone who signed up regardless of what they did or what happened to them does bug me.

Let me repeat so as to hopefully avoid a thread imploding argument: I have respect for those who did something or lost something and don't have to ask for it. It's a lot harder for me to respect those whose service only went as far as sitting on a secure base for a year and then they're like "You have to respect me, I'm a soldier." I know a lot of soldiers and respect them but I have met those who didn't really do much in the army, were never in any real danger, and act like they are god's gift to us.
 
I 150% agree with everything you just said. I even know a kid (used to be a good friend) who gives of that attitude like "I am in the army, I'm better than you" which sadly for him is not even close to being the case. But, that being said, sympathizing and respecting are two totally different animals. I will sympathize with every soldier, regardless of their attitude, for having the bravery to put their lives on the line to protect people they will most certainly never know or even meet. What I wont do is give my respect to those that think they deserve it. You served my country and I appreciate that, but fighting in a war/wars I don't agree with and saying you are fighting for my "freedom" against a country that isn't even capable of launching an attack on our own soil is fucking ridiculous. I have zero respect for that.
