The segment was filmed a few months before the commercial launch of the GoPro Digital Hero 3

Aren't there other helmet cam-style shots from older movies prior to GoPros too? I feel like MSP and TGR have a few flicks with some big mountain skiers wearing goofy camera setups on their helmets with a batterypack attached. I feel like McConkey had a few ski base jump clips in movies too. Greg Stump had some pretty cool camera setups too for Blizzard of Ahhs as well.

was a sony one for a while, not sure if was before or after the hero 3

My unpopular opinion - Horizon Tech is overrated. Makes sense on the Bent120 but could care less on all other applications. Makes butters weird on piste and is simply unnecessary.

I love Chris Benchetler and atomic as a brand overall. I've yet to ski the Bent 110 - I LOVED my Blogs back in the day but I know I'd prefer without the horizon tech. I'll still give'm a spin at some point this season - I'm just out here unpopular-opinioning

New child labor was kinda boring. Like the skiing is sick, but I feel like there's nothing unique or interesting about the filming or editing. Wasn't really left with any memorable impressions

I thought it was a really well put together ski movie. It had better and more balanced b-roll than a lot of other films this year. The skiing was great and i really liked most of the music.

It wasn't revolutionary, but i think it was way better than some of the supposed "heavy hitters" like Brushino

Agree with both of these takes, better than brushino but also not the most memorable project ever

Wearing goggles on the back of your head on a sunny day is just so dumb. No one’s made it look good since henrik’s first nose butter triple

On that note, wearing sunglasses with goggles on your head is also pointless and looks dumb.

harlaut hasn't really been putting out any "revolutionary" projects since the one he put out with the apparel crew. Brushino, for something being put on Benny the Butcher's channel, someone with pretty big influence, there really wasn't anything stunning

People spaz way too hard over gear. imo a good skier should be able to ski pretty much the same way on skis of all ends of the spectrum. just get a pair of skis and go ski

Go try and slide rails on some wrenagades then slam some moguls with wets.

There is definitely different classes, but once you get comfortable enough on skis, you’ll know what you want/don’t want in a pair of skis.

My style definitely switches up depending on what I’m on that day

Try to spin or land switch on some volkl mantras

As long as the skis are in the same class yeah. There isn’t gonna be a massive difference between two brands mid fat park ski

Theres no excuse to not put up a milly tube and an uprail at the tiny park in snowmass, our park crew just sucks ass. Its always some random ass shitty setup that sucks for early season. Right now for the "hard" line in the park its a tiny down rail, up to flat box, then a 30ft rail, and the kickers change daily. Its not that I cant work with these features, it just sucks ass seeing normal good setups everywhere else then having this bullshit year after year done by the same idiots.

So many videos these days try way too hard and forget that skiing is supposed to be fun.

I'll take a rowdy resort, park or powder segment over fake dramatic and artsy segments every time!

Ditch the ridiculous levels of B-roll and super intense music and get us hyped on skiing.

Mutiny is the exception to the rule.

agreed. mutiny only pulled it off because the skiing, shooting, and editing was so good, imo it was when stept finally really flowered into what they'd wanted to be for years

2 on to regs might be one of the most mid tricks cause it’s literally everywhere but so nice when someone makes it unique

The bare minimum for any park should be a flat box and fat tube, I don’t know how people screw this up so often

They updated it to this a week or so ago. Im happy with it personally but defenitly not the best setup for learning your first rail or whatever. Got my first switch lip of the season on the first rail though. Goal rn is to b2 out to the right on the wall rail without landing in the flat.

I actually think these pants are pretty close to being genuinely fire, a little too simple but the lightning bolt down one leg looks cool

I'm still of the opinion that if you saw a Patroller ripping a park setup or hitting cliffs, the boys would most definitely be fired up.

Just saw Seamus commented on a level 1/forre insta post and asked what happened to people shoveling the stairs for clips. Hornbeck chimed in on it too. curious what people think about this.

I think a lot of people get into trying urban without learning any of the history. If I wasn't on newschoolers, I would never have thought to clear snow off stairs doing urban or even recognized that fact in clips (not that I ever have done that kind of urban).

It's valid because one of em responded saying "cleaning the stairs would have taken days" but the CL boys bring fuckin pickaxes and spend hours on end shoveling out spots. It doesn't matter for 99% of the crews but when you are as talented as forre and create such high level work, with incredible attention to detail, it's kinda strange that they skimp out on that end. They also make these big ass builds for their spots and drag a winch to half of them, I can't imagine shoveling the stairs would be THAT much more effort then they already put in so I can see why he was curious about that, because its not like the effort isn't there in the other aspects.

I don’t think I’d ever notice if they’ve shovelled . I’ve shovelled spots that I’ve hit though

No shovel had touched those stairs during the winter. Weather in the clip looks like around 0 celsius, so it's possible that the stairs are covered in 10-15cm very packed, almost ice like snow. It could have taken way too much time to shovel them.

Just speculating tho and Forre should have given a better answer for the whiners.

the clip is less impressive since the stairs aren't shoveled, but i still think the spot and trick selection are sick. l don't like that you can't even tell if there are stairs there. Any time I've hit street spots I've left a small layer of snow on the steps cuz fuck sliding down dry steps.

Most of the clips the stairs are well shoveled but there is that 450 onto the dfd right in the middle of the movie that is kinda heinous, the stairs are basically completely covered, homie is snowplowing down the inrun, riding TWPs, and the trick selection, while impressive, seems genuinely bad. I love that movie especially for the soundtrack and most of the clips are super proper. But idk why they decided to highlight that 450 onto the dfd it’s such an awkward looking clip and has some glaring aesthetic issues

Not only would it fire me up, it would make me feel safer. I want patrollers to be badass skiers so that if I get hurt on a crazy run far away from the groomers, they can actually save me. Half of the time I see patrollers ski I’m saying to myself “that person will not be able to help me if I get hurt skiing in the woods”

It isn't whiners tho, I mean it is objectively annoying because Seamo and his crew will dig out 10-15cm of ice on most features no matter how long it takes. It's Forre, they are one of the heaviest hitting crews so I don't feel bad that people want to hold them to high standards tbh.

It's not as trivial as it sounds either because it's genuinely something you notice for the entire Forre movie, they did it a lot. I can't remember the last time a legendary crew didn't shovel the stairs for their video.

I know shoveling the stairs is the way and I will if I have time but often in street you just gotta get in and out of a high busy spot quick. Y’all need to chill with the stairs

I honestly didn’t notice it very much other than that 4 on clip, what are some other examples? I’m fine with some snow on the stairs but buried stairs like in that clip are def kinda wack.

This one might just be the angle

1083690.jpeg

Same feature as the TWP dude 450 I think

1083692.jpeg

That was just a quick scrub through the video from memory tho, I just remember it being more than 1 feature for sure because me and my friends thought it was uncharacteristic for them

Nah ive never fucked with forre,,, like they are pretty good and all but there are so many better crews with better filming and skiing... i genuinly dont care that they do big spots, like i want steez legit. fr dawgz

As you said, a lot of those clips are filmed from an angle at the top of the stairs which makes them look more snowy. And idk if that big gradual down rail even has stairs under it? Could be like a gravel type deal, in which case I think not shoveling is valid.

for me there is a big difference between snowy stairs and BURIED stairs. Buried stair look wack and lazy. Snowy stairs look like you are just hitting street after a snowstorm, which is one of the best times to hit street.

forre def deserves a call out for a couple of these clips but overall I think the hate is being overblown, this shovel the stairs shit it turning into a weird type of core virtue signaling

First one is valid, but i think the clip on insta where the comments were would be way too much work for something that not everybody realises.
