Unpopular opinion thread skier's edition

Salute was somewhat cringe. Pretty amazing skiing. But I couldn’t get past the generic music, unnecessary sound effects, nonsensical captions, gratuitous shots of random black dudes (especially the nba ones?) and sporadic cuts. Love henny but stept has firmly moved past the ski world and into the corporate commercial world it seems. It’s a shame that such great skiing was documented in such a generic yet awkward way

such fax

Upright switch tens with a solid mute are money

carved 7 tweaked safety ?? or 5s with a capped uncrossed tail also. saw a upright 12 stale and tbh it didn’t even look that bad also

don't really know where to put this but it could be seen as an unpopular opinion depending on how you answer:

who's worse, steepsteep or bruce oldham?

they've started doing videos together now and it's the worst. i don't think i can watch steepsteep anymore, it's too cringe. maybe it's always been like this and i'm just realizing now but these videos, man... he's just going fast and straight airing lame side hits and they're screaming and it's so weird.

also imo bruce is worse bc i don't like his accent.

Bruce blocked me bc he’s jealous I ski with Mayapapaya in the summer, and idek who this steep steep mf y’all shit on is.

bliss is priceless, just don’t pay attention to people like them.

that's childish of bruce.

he's a pretty big Yter (170k). i don't hate him but i've just suddenly found him unbearable. too over the top with the "send it" energy.

steepsteep makes content for children and in order to appeal to children he must be cringe

learn to mount your own skis. There’s a chance the shop “tech” doing ur skis doesn’t know much more than you do.

Only thing nice about the shop is that they can do a release test.

If you know how to set your pressures it’s doable, but yeah that is a perk. I just have little to zero faith in most ski techs anymore

I liked killingtons park setups more before they became Woodward. Granted I’m still recovering from my ACL tear but been generally unstoked on their setups/lack of a few simple but not tiny features. Yeah they always have a decent tube setup but always seem to see setups I’d rather be skiing at other places. Maybe time to switch it up next season

Oh yea? You just have a Vermont Release Calibrater or a wintersteiger laying around your house? A release test is more than setting your forward pressure and afd/ toe height. I’m all for home mounts, but you should bring them to a reliable shop for a release test after.

W, outerwear is overpriced. My flylow baker bibs are like slightly more water proof/breathable than my saga pants I spent 50 bucks on. Not nearly as comfy too

For real dude. I think I’m starting to fuck with pipe riders and pipe contests more than anything in skiing. Especially comps, sitting on the deck watching those fuckers dub right over your head is the coolest thing ever

if i see one more edit with that fucking project pat song i swear to god bruh. shits so the played out why would you even use it at this point. i could be geekin but i feel like every other edit i see has that song in it.

In terms of price, durability, performance, how easy they are to find, and just all around versatility the k2 poacher is probably the best ski ever made.

Hard agree, for $550 bucks you’ll get a ski that lasts 4+ years. That’s not normal for groomer skis, let alone skis you grind on metal and slide over rocks and concrete 24/7. If you’re tight on funds buy poachers and save up for the next half decade, no exaggeration.

it's true. they are a little stiff for my liking but nothing beats the durability. if they still made shredditors I would say those are better than poachers but they don't.

The latest Henrik street edit is super disappointing, had a handful of bangers but considering the standard I expect from one of the street GOAT's I thought it was pretty weak. The closer is him sliding a double kink then doing a 180...

He filmed the entire thing with a broken wrist...

Ok good point, I stand by it being a subpar edit though. I don't tend to judge my enjoyment of an edit based on how injured the skier is I guess.

You don't consider the circumstances of the skier and video to be a factor of how good the video is?

I guess I consider it but I wouldn't say it has a huge impact, like Candide Kamera definitely hits harder for being a 'return from injury' edit. But regardless of the return from injury part it's still an amazing edit. This edit has no legs without the broken wrist, and with it maybe brings it to an 'average' standard for me, still dissapointing from a guy that's put out some of the heaviest street parts of all time.

Might just be a personal thing though. Like i reaaally hate those "14 year old does a dub 14" edits. I don't really care how old you are, the edit is a stand alone thing for me, the skier's circumstances don't matter that much to me.

So by that logic, Trevor Kennison should be doing all of the same stuff as any other pro skier then. Have you ever has a serious injury before? I'm wondering because it affects everything about your skiing, even if it's not directly involved in the trick. Imagine the pain you would be in if you slipped and fell on a broken wrist. Now you go street skiing and slide some dub kinks and shit. How is that not an important factor of the video?

Ok man, take a deep breath, slow down, and read what I'm saying haha.

I said "circumstances don't matter that much to me". I did not say they are completely irrelevant. Obviously I don't expect Trevor to be doing the exact same stuff as any pro skier. That dude blows my mind, I think the shit he does is insane and that is obviously largely driven by his particular circumstance. Does that mean I'm going to love every piece of content he puts out? No, I'll still judge it on it's merits, if Trevor put out an edit below his usual standard i'd judge it accordingly.

I have had serious injuries yes, but personally if I put out an edit I would expect people to judge it on its own merits. I don't really like making excuses for myself personally. Like I said before, sure, if I had a broken wrist I would expect people maybe to cut me some slack, but if I put out an average edit I wouldn't expect people to just say it's amazing when it's not just because of that.

This Henrik edit isn't terrible, i also don't think it's anything special. Does him having a broken wrist matter? Yes, of course it does, it's impressive that he stacked a lot of these shots while injured. Does that make this a sick edit or do I still think it's kinda weak, personally, I think it's kinda weak. You obviously disagree, that's fine, unpopular opinion thread doing it's job haha.

Pretty weak to think he can still do the wild shit he was doing at the peak of his career 6-9 years ago. In action sports years, he's a fucking boomer and still killing it way harder than the popular vishnu bunchie douchebags.

The random shots of black people peppered in there was an odd editing choice

Yeh agreed, my impression was he was trying to draw parallels between his 'hustle' and theirs which doesn't feel super appropriate imo.

While wearing a durag. Also side note: Am I crazy or did all the people shown in the video look pissed? I feel like not one person besides him and Noah looked stoked at any point in the video. Really weird vibe.

riding new skis in the park sucks. feel like I need to baby them, but really just want to smash into stuff.

This feeling lasts for me until I whack one of the tips into a rail or get some edge cracks. And then I can destroy them and feel okay about it lol

just rewatched something in the water by mango and again was disappointed. idk his last 2 edits felt like they focused on the cinematogrophy more than the actual skiing. like bro is probably way happier not filming street shit but hes not the animal he once was imo.
