Super blazing hot take, some companies (cough cough Vishnu) take themselves way too seriously. Don’t get me wrong I love what they do for the scene but gaw dam people are getting way too caught up in the “deeper” meaning of things, who tf cares just go ski or some shit

I see what ur tryna say, but in our world today small companies like this need to take themselves too seriously so they’re not overlooked, overblown, or bought out

I think Jet is way worse than Vishnu in this regard, specifically with respect to branding/aesthetics. Also we have a lot of this in blading and I find it extremely annoying.

1000 skis are gonna fall off very soon. They won’t be able to compete with the other niche smaller companies like jet and Vishnu

I’d love to try a pair cause 178 is about the length I need in the park. Without being too short. But the price tag isn’t justifiable. Would rather get 2 pairs of Vs, or Poachers or a pair of jets and pair of used nomads for the same price

I don't think so, their niche is different than jet and vishnu

Also the entire team seems very long term dedicated to it, I doubt it will go anywhere in the next few years even if they’re not doing the hottest.

I remember thinking that the market was over saturated a few years and wondering which company would go under next. I didn’t expect it to be HG skis. And that just about broke my heart cause I was planning on buying a pair that summer.

I would partly agree with you, but the same could also be said for companies like jet and Vishnu, in another 5-10 years, probably none of these small ski companies are going to be around. They're trends, which inherently die out, and are replaced by a new set of trends.

i don’t think vishnu will die out any time soon considering they’re the only ones selling a ski like the wet

if anyone’s going it’ll be jet for having wack business practices or 1000 for just being overpriced to the point that it’s lame unless you’re a hardcore environmentalist

Eco-friendly skis. I can think of only one other ski company whose premise is eco-friendliness, WNDR Alpine, and they seem much more focused on the backcountry side of things than 1000.

Lib tech is and always has been very focused on building eco friendly skis and for a while now have been considered the most eco friendly ski brand. Idk if that is still the case but they’re American made and less expensive than 1000. They don’t have a poppin team though but that doesn’t always mean success for a ski brand. Ninthward collapsed and they had a pro model with Henrik, ski business long term success stories are a bit of a rarity

comp skiers are so lame because people with actual style like haurlaut or matej only come along once in a blue moon

In general yeah they're pretty lame but theres way more comp skiers with actual style than that. Max Moffatt, Ferdi, Edouard Therriault, Ahall...

Jumps > rails all day. The are just simply more fun. Nothing like that front flip then backflip the second jump combo. Don’t feel like spinning or flipping? Just pop a Steezy shifty and just enjoy being 30 feet in the air.

rails are fun too (pedaling a long rail comes close ) but you just can’t beat jumps

Well put. Some people don't like jumps for some reason but there's nothing like that feeling of weightlessness for a few seconds on a large jump. Cliffs are great but they don't pop you up, creating that zero gravity feeling. Rails are really fun, but jumps are better

The older I get the more I hate jumps. I haven’t spun past 5 in years

catch me 270’ing onto rails well into old age

Damn even I can’t not upvote this, ya got me

i am absolutely the worst jumper you’ll ever meet for my level of rail competence

An edit from 5 years ago where you toss a shitty 7 and some some whack ass 5s on 15ft jumps.
https://www.newschoolers.com/videos/watch/877337/Ray-Parr--Still-Stuck-in-Ohio

But please, do tell us more about how your age is preventing you from spinning past 540 and its not due to your lack of ability and confidence, you fucking pussy.

Rap is so played out in skiing

instantly turned off if an edit uses 90’s rap sorry (or griselda)

at least find some obscure rap if it’s gonna be 90s

I’m bias but as long as shits not over played or over used in edits, I’m good. Idc how played out shit is in skiing, I love it and that music style has been a giant part of skiing for years.

For some people short skis are preferable and mansplaining ski length to them won't make it any easier for you to keep up

If Sam Zahner was born in 1990 he would be Tom wallisch

I think there’s a ton of rail skiers that could have blown up, but I think a lot of people forget how ahead of his time Tom was

He's right.

-Very expensive

-Uninteresting aesthetics

-Designs bring little new to the table

Not sure why people would want them over other cheap indie freestyle brands

Idk man, Tom blew up in college when he was in his 20s skiing 5 days a week at Park City. Zahner lived in jersey his whole life and had better rail tricks than 90% of pros at the age of 15.

I don’t think people realize how many people were on Wally’s level in the late 2000s early 2010s. Hell I would even say Dale Talkington was probably the most talented park and street athlete during that timeframe and he was in high school too. I’m all for giving Bob walnuts shot loads of credit but he wasn’t *lightyears* ahead of everyone else, that’s discrediting so many kids riding during that time. he just happened to make all the right moves and pump out iconic edits and grow his audience bigger than anyone else’s.

Zahner was not better at rails than 90% of pros when he was in highscool. He was good but I'd say most pros of the time could have done all those tricks. He also had a pretty wack attitude when he was younger imo which may have hindered him becoming bigger. It's hard and pointless to compare skiers from different generations.

eh sorry this is completely inaccurate. the number of people that were on toms level in the late 2000s early 2010s was exactly zero. tom learned tricks at an unfathomable pace and got better literally every single day. there has never been a rate of progression like his - he was absurdly versatile, nobody could ever touch his superunknown. he also had better style than 100% of people doing it. theres a reason he won every single comp for like 2 years straight and put out better video parts than anyone else at the same time. you saying "he just happened to make all the right moves and pump out iconic edits and grow his audience bigger than anyone else’s" is one of the most insane and misguided things ive ever read on this website. theres a reason his name is as big as it is, its totally justified and youre fucking clueless if you think otherwise

There were people as stylish as Tom Wallisch and people with as big a trick bag. But ^ hit the nail on the head that Twall had by far the most versatility looking back. He could do it all. Win comps, put out sick street segments, ski some pow pretty well (especially for an east coaster ;) ), and do it all while having the right attitude and style. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like there was pretty much nothing to critique him on.

Kind of proving my point, zahners progression was fucked, he pumped out shit tons of videos, he was tech as fuck, and if he was born a decade earlier he’d be Tom wallisch.

and it’s crazy youre saying stuff like “the people on his level was zero” when Bobby brown was throwing triples in 2010 like what??
