cause it’s a pain in the ass to do

compared to shooting footage, uploading it, editing it, posting it? i don't shoot/edit much these days but ramping slow mo never stood out to me as a big effort. night and day difference in the result too

i really grew to love blading this past summer... but so much of it looks terrible on film

Then you need to get either better clothing or style.

Watch old edits of vinny minton, murda johnson, rachard johnson, brian aragon, julian bah. These guys all have mad steeze and are wearing hella baggy shit.

a lot of modern blading is ugly af but same goes for skiing. Really in any action sport it's all about style.

wasnt talking abhout myself im years away from being good enough to wanna film anything. i think clothing has less to do with style than body control. blading clips I find least appealing are where the skater hops on a rail and immediately starts doing as many different grind variations they can think of without ever leaving the rail, just moving feet in front/ behind one anothe etc.

my favorite skater is broskow, his skating reminds me the most of skiing

wow watching some clips has me pining to put the blades back on tho! definitely helps keep my mind from ruminating on skiing during the summer months

if you ask people to like your post from your story im automatically gonna think less of you

I mean, if its just a regular page with like crappy photos of people, makes total sense, but on a more professional page like photography, I only do it to keep my follows(which I dont event know most of them) in the loop on new things and marketing if people want to buy something but that wont happen for a long time but I dont mention "go like new post." Thats just cringe. Just put it in the story like all the other posts I find from other people that look really cool.

Haha that's so weird you say that cuz my favorite clips are when they jump on the rail and do like 3 switchups. And I vastly prefer old school hammer Broskow to what he does now.

I'd say that early 2000s blading corresponds to late 2000s skiing, whole lotta "jump on the rail and do some switchups all flowy" and just a whole lotta "proper" tricks, no weird small stuff.

The thing I hate most in blading style wise is when they wave their arms around or have them super stiff above their head. As a freeskier that's just something I can't get down with.

I have a friend who skis like this every time he's with me because he knows it makes me want to cut his arms off

dope snow or montec arnt horrible brands as everyone on here portrays them to be. If you like how they look and make you feel good, get them, fuck what everyone else has to say.

Shit on this opinion all you want but I do genuinely find it hard to root for candide and call him the goat or whatever. Raw skiing mastery only goes so far for me, you gotta not only add flavor but also be a person worth caring about, and I don’t really know shit about candide from his videos and insta.

Have you watched Few Words? It's a great film that tells Candide's story well

Or you support people not trying to exploit your sport for money or buy cheap/used.

first thing I thought when I watched a video of Brian for the first time was "wow, he moves like a skier". Turns out he snowboards instead lol

Yeah a lot of other people here have also said that watching hammers make them respect bladers way more

How bout this

Rails and shit are amazing but don't call it skiing

It's something, but not skiing.

also idk if this is an unpopular opinion but i find pretty much all jacket options on the market mid as fuck

I wish there was a brand that could fill the shoes of Saga and 2010s Armada outerwear

I agree with this

But that means I need to downvote this then if I agree with above :(

This is a place for ppl to share hot takes and see who actually agreed with them all this time, that's all

Don't think too hard about it tho

I don’t rock with Jackson karsteter, Tanner Blakely, or Luke Votaw or dudes similar too them. Not hating because they aren’t “core” or whatever, but I just genuinely don’t get a good vibe from them, the new “hypebeast” style of skiing just doesn’t do it for me. But I don’t mean to take away from their skiing, they are extremely talented and have put in a lot of effort. But I just don’t like them

luke votaw is definitely the worst of that group but he’s the only real “hype beast” cause he literally flexes his hideous designer shit. Rest of those dudes are just spin to win social media machines who have a following mostly consisted of 12 year olds who haven't gotten sick of watching triple corks and quad swaps yet. Tanner and Jackson are both super talented but that style of skiing gets old quick. I feel like votaw and karsteter are somewhat big forces behind line selling so many tom walls even though they’re kind of shit skis.

They must be good because I've never heard of them.

im new to park ski but even i know that "steez" as a term has been hijacked by people who just hit lips

Comments on Instagram call a ski racer going fast “steez”

I hope they unironically start calling things core.

Skiing lift line is the best tbh.

my gf and friends hate skiing lift line cause it’s “embarrassing” or what not. Nah it’s like a stage almost. Just ball out and if you fall it’s no biggie, everyone on the mountain is chill asf.

Also you have the perfect Ariel view of choosing a line, and don’t have to make guesses

Love it. Go throw some shit and stunt on them. I’ll often straight line moguls under lift airing off them every now and again. Love it when I hear the cheers from the lift. My favorite is when there’s a drop or natural kicker right under the lift

Woofbiz pants are nuts for the price. Cool idea of bringing parachute pants to people tho. The neon ones look so bad and the massive rectangle with the tight ankle synch looks so bad. Not to mention 200$ for some ribstop shells??? If ur gonna pay that much atleast get some anytides or something that isn’t just a massive rectangle and took half a hour to make

like half of his pairs look great but the other half are kind of hideous. probably the most unique homemade pants i can think of though.

Tanner Blakey has grown on me. Aside from the basic insta edits he’s pretty dope. And it looks like he’s putting together a street part which would be dope asf and earn him so respect

Yo agreed. I don’t wear that style of pants but fuck with them on others. But anyways I saw the owner skiing at killington in November before I knew about them and met him. He was a super chill dude but god damn he was wearing these nasty yellow pants with knee patches with some whack pattern to them. The way they were baggy too didn’t have much to any shape to it and I thought they were some of the ugliest pants I’ve ever seen. Some of the pants are kinda cool but damn for that style I feel like they just ain’t it.

East Coast had a bigger impact on the sport than Europe/West Coast/ Australia and NZ combined.

I agree if you're talking park and street skiing, but if you're talking skiing in general not so much

Well I think the influence on both of those things was kind of a pivotal moment in freeski history, I mean just an example before stept had you ever heard of a street only movie? I think stuff like that had a really dramatic effect on the sport as a whole

14417164:ReturnToMonkey said:
Wasn't skiing invented in Europe tho? Anyone know if Aboriginals skied?

Yeah, and I’m pretty sure park skiing (sliding rails and stuff) was invented in California, but I think claiming Europe inventing skiing is influential is kind of a cop out, and the progression of freestyle skiing at mammoth was microscopic compared to what a lot of the east coast riders brought to the table

Wow this is a bad opinion. So off base.

Yeah for real. Most people think it’s Scandinavia (it’s not) but Finland is known by snowboarders and skiers alike for urban and urban trips. Both have been taking urban trips to Finland for decades.

honestly forre and the bunch are kind of in their own lane these days. Everybody is trying to be like HG Skis or zootspace (a lot of those dudes are from the east I think)

people been ripping nordic skis for thousands of years but modern alpine skiing was invented in austria in the late 1800s

Even if street skiing came from Finland I think you’re downplaying tf out of what east coast crews did to it
